Moronta has made the Opening Day roster, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Giants placed Mark Melancon (elbow) on the disabled list, so they needed another live arm to open the season. Moronta has a huge fastball but often doesn't know where it's going. He has the potential to someday develop into a late-inning arm, but will be limited to low-leverage situations initially.

Moronta was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Moronta made his first appearance in the Show at the latter end of the 2017 season. He threw 6.2 innings across seven games, over which he recorded 11 strikeouts and allowed two runs on six hits and three walks. Although he's returning to the Triple-A level, it's entirely possible that he'll return to the big club this season if the Giants need help in the bullpen.

Moronta gave up a hit while striking out three over a scoreless inning Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
Moronta was tasked with facing the heart of Arizona's lineup in sixth inning, and he came through with flying colors, notching notable strikeouts against Paul Goldschmidt and J.D. Martinez. The hard-throwing rookie (95.9 mph average fastball) has struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while posting a 1.59 ERA. Moronta isn't being used in high-leverage situations, but he may have shown enough this September to earn a bullpen job with the Giants next season.

Moronta was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Andrew Baggarly of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
EDGE Analysis
He has a 2.12 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 17 strikeouts in 17 innings (13 appearances) with Sacramento. Moronta has late-inning stuff, but throwing strikes has always been an issue for him. Look for him to work in low-leverage situations this year, although he could earn a look in high-leverage spots in the future.

Moronta (shoulder) served up two runs on three hits in an inning of work for Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The pitching prospect was activated from the disabled list after two rehab appearances for the Arizona League Giants and was immediately sent to Triple-A, but his first outing went anything but well. The big blow was a two-run homer off the bat of Drew Stubbs, but the more important thing is that Moronta is still healthy following the 19-pitch outing. He'll look to develop further as a member of the River Cats' bullpen.

Moronta has missed time this season with a muscle issue in his shoulder, J.J. Cooper of Baseball America reports.
EDGE Analysis
The injury caused Double-A Richmond to put him on the disabled list June 3, but the reliever appears to be nearing as a return as he just made his first rehab appearance with the Arizona League Giants on July 16. Before the injury, Moronta had an ERA with 4.00 with 26 strikeouts in 18.0 innings for Double-A Richmond. He was also on the big league roster for one game in May but did not make an appearance.

Moronta was optioned back to Double-A Richmond on Wednesday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Moronta was shuttled back to Richmond after just one game with the big club. This isn't too surprising, as his promotion was expected to be short lived. The move is to clear room on the roster for Brandon Crawford (groin), who is expected to be reinstated from the disabled list ahead of Thursday's game against the Reds.

Moronta was recalled from Double-A Richmond on Wednesday, Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
EDGE Analysis
After moving Mark Melancon (elbow) to the disabled list Tuesday, the Giants had an opening in the bullpen and elected to plug the hole with Moronta, a 24-year-old right-hander who compiled a 3.18 ERA and 0.99 WHIP over 11.1 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .175 on-base percentage. It's likely just a short-term promotion for Moronta, who was the only minor-league reliever on the 40-man roster who could join the Giants in New York in time for their day game Wednesday against the Mets. Expect the Giants to send Moronta back to Double-A before the weekend and bring in a more seasoned relief arm from the Triple-A ranks.

Moronta was added to the Giants' 40-man roster Friday, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Moronta overpowered High-A hitters in 2016 with a high-90s fastball and a late-breaking slider, striking out 93 batters in just 59 innings. He also took a step forward with his control, trimming his walk rate to 3.1 BB/9, down from 4.3 in 2015. The right-hander figures to spend most of 2017 in the minors but could get a look with the big club late in the year.
