Moronta pitched a perfect seventh inning to earn a hold in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rockies. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Moronta threw only 14 pitches (10 strikes) in the inning. The right-hander has a 2.25 ERA, 0.25 WHIP and two holds over four innings this season. As long as he keeps pitching well, Moronta will be in the mix for high-leverage work, although most save chances will likely go to Jake McGee.

Moronta pitched a perfect seventh inning and earned a hold in Monday's 3-2 win over the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Moronta retired Manny Machado, Eric Hosmer and Tommy Pham on groundouts. The 28-year-old Moronta allowed a homer versus the Mariners on Saturday, but he's still expected to log most of his innings in high-leverage situations. He posted a 2.86 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 15 holds across 56.2 innings in 2019, but Moronta missed all of 2020 as he recovered from a surgically repaired torn labrum in his right shoulder.

Moronta threw a scoreless inning with a strikeout in Saturday's spring training win over Cleveland. He was throwing his fastball around 92 mph. "Obviously, we feel like when when he is at his best, he's throwing a little bit harder than that," manager Gabe Kapler told the San Francisco Chronicle.
EDGE Analysis
It was Moronta's spring debut after missing last season due to shoulder surgery. He averaged 97.2 mph with his fastball in 2019, so he likely has a ways to go to build back to his prior form.

Moronta signed a one-year deal with the Giants on Friday to avoid arbitration, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 27-year-old missed last season after undergoing shoulder surgery in September 2019, but he's now officially under contract for 2021. Moronta has a 2.66 ERA since making his big-league debut in 2017, and he's expected to be in competition for the closer's role in spring training,

Giants manager Gabe Kapler suggested earlier this month that Moronta (shoulder) will be given the opportunity to compete for the closer's role in spring training, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. "We challenged him to come to camp in his peak physical condition, we challenged him to come to camp dedicating himself to potentially being an important late-inning, high-leverage reliever for us," Kapler said of Moronta. "He's going to have opportunities to take control of a role like that. We'll see what he looks like in spring training, and if he steps up to the plate and emerges as that guy we're going to be really excited about it."
EDGE Analysis
Moronta missed the entire 2020 campaign while rehabbing from shoulder surgery, but he displayed good velocity in his late-season throwing sessions at the Giants' alternate site, putting him on track to enter the spring without any restrictions. The Giants are expected to have a number of arms competing for the ninth-inning gig in the spring, but Moronta probably offers the most traditional closer profile of any reliever currently on the roster. Largely on the strength of his upper-90s fastball and a sharp slider, Moronta has struck out 29.8 percent of the batters he's faced over his three seasons in the big leagues.

Moronta (shoulder) won't be included on the Giants' taxi squad for the rest of the regular season and playoffs, signaling that he won't return from the 45-day injured list in 2020, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Moronta has been sidelined for just over a year after undergoing surgery last September to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. He appeared to have made good progress while rehabbing at the Giants' alternate training site in Sacramento, reaching the final phase of his recovery program by facing hitters in simulated games last week. However, with the Giants closing their alternate site for the season, Moronta wasn't going to have the opportunity to work out regularly in a team environment, so he'll continue to build up his arm at home over the winter. The reliever should enter spring training with few restrictions, if any.

Moronta (shoulder) will throw one inning during a simulated game Wednesday, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 27-year-old has been throwing live batting practice, but he's now progressed to what should be the final stage of his recovery. Moronta has a strong chance of returning from the injured list before the end of the regular season if all goes well in his sim games.

Moronta (shoulder) has looked quite good in live batting practice sessions and has a chance to return to the roster before the end of the year, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Moronta has been out all season while working his way back from shoulder surgery, a procedure he underwent back in September of 2019. He'll be a useful option for the Giants if and when he's ready, as he owns a career 2.66 ERA in 128.1 big-league innings.

Moronta (shoulder) could throw live batting practice as early as next week, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
He has been throwing bullpen sessions at the alternate training site as he works his way back from shoulder surgery. Given what he is returning from and where he stands in his rehab, we could see Moronta back in the majors sometime in September.

Moronta (shoulder) is throwing bullpen sessions at the alternate training site, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 27-year-old continues to progress as he recovers from the right labrum surgery he underwent in September 2019. It's unclear when Moronta is expected to be cleared for game action, but should be available at some point this season if he can avoid any setbacks.
