He was at 34 pitches after two innings, 11 shy of his 45-pitch limit, but the lefty managed to get three outs quickly in his final inning. He's made two Grapefruit League starts and will depart camp for the World Baseball Classic, where Suarez will compete for Team Venezuela.

The Red Sox signed Suarez to a five-year, $130 million contract Wednesday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

After watching Alex Bregman walk out the door, the Red Sox have pivoted to further bolstering their rotation with Suarez. The left-hander has never thrown more than 157.1 innings in a regular season, but Suarez boasts a 3.25 ERA over 143 regular-season appearances since the beginning of the 2021 campaign. Suarez also has an excellent postseason track record, having collected a 1.48 ERA and 44:13 K:BB across 42.2 frames.

Suarez rejected the Phillies' one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer Tuesday, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.

By extending Suarez the qualifying offer, the Phillies will now obtain a draft pick if the left-hander signs with a new team in free agency. Suarez has never made 30 starts or thrown 160 innings in a big-league season, but he's been incredibly valuable nonetheless, collecting a 3.25 ERA since the start of the 2021 campaign.

The Phillies extended a one-year, $22.05 million qualifying offer to Suarez on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Suarez is coming off an excellent 2025 season in which he posted a 3.20 ERA and a 151:38 K:BB over 157.1 regular-season innings and yielded one run in five postseason frames. Suarez will turn 30 next August, and he'll likely decline the qualifying offer in pursuit of a multi-year deal. If he leaves Philadelphia, the Phillies will receive draft compensation.

Suarez (1-0) spun five innings of one-run ball out of the bullpen to pick up the victory in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Dodgers in Game 3 of the NLDS.

Aaron Nola drew the start for the Phillies but was lifted after two scoreless frames in favor of Suarez. The left-hander served up a solo home run to the first batter he faced in Tommy Edman, but Suarez settled in after that, holding the Dodgers off the scoreboard on four hits and one walk while striking out five. It's unlikely Suarez will be available to pitch for the rest of the NLDS, but he'll either be part of the Phillies' rotation or continue to operate in a bulk-relief role should his team advance to the NLCS.

Suarez (thigh) will follow starter Aaron Nola in Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Dodgers on Wednesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Suarez hasn't pitched since his last start of the regular season Sept. 27 against the Twins, when he exited after being struck by a comebacker. Nola will be tasked with starting Wednesday's matchup, but considering the Phillies are facing elimination, Suarez could be called on at any time.

Suarez was hit in the groin area by a comebacker in the top of the fifth, ultimately leaving the contest thereafter. The left-hander was laughing as he walked off, and the team deemed it to be an inner-thigh contusion on his left leg. More information on his status will likely be provided in the near future, but in the meantime, Max Lazar replaced him in the mound versus Minnesota.

Suarez (12-7) took the loss Sunday against the Diamondbacks, giving up six runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out two over four innings.

It also marked his shortest outing since May 4, when he was tagged for seven runs in 3.1 innings. Suarez wasn't at his best, allowing a solo home run to Max Muncy and a pair of sacrifice flies to Mookie Betts, but it was still enough for a quality start. This was the first time in five starts Suarez has allowed multiple runs -- he's surrendered just four runs over 30 innings in that span. For the season, he's produced a 2.84 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 145:37 K:BB through 149 innings over 24 starts. The veteran southpaw is projected for a home start versus the Marlins next week if the Phillies continue to deploy a six-man rotation.
