Martin was designated for assignment on Monday, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
He was the casualty when the Nationals needed to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Ryan Raburn, who was promoted to the big leagues. Martin has a 5.18 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 21 strikeouts in 20 relief appearances for Triple-A Syracuse this season.

Martin was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, MASN's Mark Zuckerman reports.
EDGE Analysis
He was a long shot to make the 25-man roster, and he will indeed head to the minors to serve as organizational depth. Martin has a 4.50 ERA over 16 career MLB innings, most of which came in 2015. His strikeout rates have been impressive at every stop, but he appears destined for a low-leverage role if he joins the big league club at some point in 2017.

Martin will compete for a spot in the Nationals' bullpen this spring.
EDGE Analysis
The 32-year-old has spent the last two seasons bouncing back and forth between Washington and Triple-A Syracuse, and while his minor league K-rate has been good, it come with sometimes shaky control and a sub-90 mph fastball. That's not a combination built for success in the majors, so expect Martin to begin the 2017 season back in the minors and continue providing depth when injuries hit the Nats' staff.

Martin was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Martin averaged a strikeout per frame in 50 appearances with Syracuse this season but he was done in by walks (4.56 ERA, 4.6 BB/9). Simply put, the 32-year-old does not have the stuff to separate from the middle innings.

EDGE Analysis
Martin was just recalled from Syracuse on Monday, providing temporary depth in the bullpen prior to Lucas Giolito's Tuesday call-up. Martin has otherwise spent all of 2016 in the minors.

Martin was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Martin will come up to provide bullpen insurance Monday night, but the belief is that it could only be a one-day stint with the big league club. The Nationals still need to recall a starter to take the hill Tuesday night, so Martin would seem to be the obvious roster casualty when that move is made.

Martin was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Martin spent the bulk of 2015 at the Triple-A level, posting a 3.27 ERA and 0.985 WHIP across 66.0 innings. He also made 13 appearances for the Nationals, in which he went 2-0 with a 5.11 ERA (12.1 innings). The 31-year-old figures to have a decent chance of earning his way back to the major league bullpen at some point later in the year.

Martin was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, MASN's Dan Kolko reports.
Martin was sent down to make room for A.J. Cole, who is replacing Max Scherzer (thumb) as the starter for Tuesday's game against the Braves. While he's given up five earned runs in five innings this season, Martin also owns an impressive K:BB ratio (11:2) that hints at serious potential. He was dominant with Triple-A Syracuse last season, and he could earn a late-inning role with the Nationals before the end of 2015.

Martin struck out the side on Wednesday in an inning of work, but got tagged with his first run allowed on a Matt Adams solo shot.
Eight of his nine outs in the majors leagues have come via strikeout, and while Martin's not likely to work into the Nationals' saves mix any time soon, fantasy owners in leagues where high-K relievers have value may want to scoop him up.

Martin had an eye-popping major league debut on Wednesday, tossing two shutout innings and striking out five of the seven batters he faced.
Mookie Betts flied out and Dustin Pedroia managed a single to begin the seventh, but after that it was five straight K's for the 30-year-old rookie. Martin doesn't have overpowering stuff, but he gets good movement on his pitches and pounds the strike zone, and if he keeps ringing up batters he could quickly work his way into a high-leverage role.
