Liz signed a minor-league deal with the Brewers on Friday that includes an invite to spring training.
EDGE Analysis
The 34-year-old righty last pitched in the majors in 2015, posting a 4.24 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 27 strikeouts in 23.1 innings of relief with the Pirates. He also had an impressive strikeout rate at Triple-A that year. If he makes the club out of spring training, he would likely pitch in low-leverage situations.

Liz's club option for 2016 was declined Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Liz made 14 appearances with the Pirates this season, recording a 4.24 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in 23.1 innings. The 32-year-old previously hadn't pitched in the majors since 2009, so it's unclear how much interest he might generate from other teams. That being said, he's unlikely to provide much fantasy value unless he falls into a bunch of high leverage situations in 2016.

Liz was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Liz was used sparingly in September and gave up four earned runs over six innings this month, so the Pirates decided to remove him from the roster and add Vance Worley. Liz's next step will be determined after his waiver period comes to a close.

Liz struck out two batters in two scoreless innings Tuesday against Milwaukee.
EDGE Analysis
He put together an impressive 1.40 ERA in 10 Triple-A starts prior to his recall. Liz failed in an earlier opportunity with Pittsburgh in 2015 but will try to again make the transition from starter to reliever. He's off to a good start.

Liz was called up from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The Pirates designated Liz for assignment in late May after he walked 10 in 17.1 innings, but the 31-year-old earned another opportunity with a strong showing in 16 appearances (10 starts) with Indianapolis (1.40, 1.06 WHIP). He did still continue to battle control issues on and off after his demotion, but he finished his year with Indy with five consecutive innings without a walk. Liz figures to work in long-relief over the final month, but a spot start or two isn't completely out of the question.

Liz cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune reports. Liz, who was DFA'd on Monday, posted a 3.63 ERA in 11 appearances for the Pirates, but he struggled with control and took three losses in addition to blowing a save. The veteran will look to get back on track at Triple-A in hopes of returning to Pittsburgh later this season.

Liz was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Monday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The Pirates had to make room on the roster for Monday's starter Charlie Morton (hip), and Liz was a logical choice to lose his spot. While Liz turned in a respectable 3.63 ERA in 11 appearances, he also walked 10 in 17.1 innings, taking three losses and blowing a save. The 31-year-old right-hander returned to the major leagues this season for the first time since 2009, but it's uncertain if he'll be back again.

Liz gave up a solo homer on two hits and two walks in three relief innings Thursday against Philadelphia. The Phillies' Ryan Howard smoked Liz's first pitch into the right field stands. The righthander hasn't pitched as well as his earned-run average (3.21) suggests, as his inflated WHIP (1.64) testifies -- he's walked eight batters in 14 IP. Liz hasn't seemed to earn the team's trust in tight situations, either, and isn't currently in line for potential save opportunities.

Liz scattered two hits and three walks through three innings of scoreless relief against the Cubs on Tuesday. Only 28 of Liz's 54 pitches went for strikes, but the righthander offered just enough control to give the Bucs an acceptable showing. The three innings represent Liz's longest major-league outing since Sept. 24, 2007, back when he was a rookie with the Orioles.

Liz will open the 2015 campaign as part of Pittsburgh's bullpen, Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Liz has endured a long journey since last pitching in the major leagues for Baltimore in 2009. The former top prospect isn't expected to pitch in high leverage situations for the Pirates, but he could pick up an occasional hold. The hard-throwing righty compiled a 1.80 ERA in 15 spring innings, but struggled with his command (5:7 K:BB ratio).
