Solomon signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Friday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

During the three-plus weeks he was up with the big club, Solomon made five relief appearances and was blitzed for 18 earned runs on 17 hits and 11 walks over 13.1 innings.

Solomon joins the Diamondbacks after Arizona placed Zach Davies on the 15-day injured list with a strained left oblique. The right-hander will be a multi-inning bullpen option for the Diamondbacks and look to make his first MLB appearance since 2021, when he was a member of the Astros.

Solomon was bidding for one of the final spots in the Diamondbacks' bullpen, but his 2023 campaign will instead start with Triple-Reno. The former Houston prospect has a good chance of making appearances for Arizona before the end of the 2023 season, but the D-Backs will have to add him to the 40-man roster in order for that to take place.

Solomon allowed one hit and two walks while striking out two over 2.2 scoreless innings in Saturday's spring start against the Mariners.

This was Solomon's first Cactus League appearance since March 10, as the right-hander has been victimized by rainouts and a logjam of starters needing work. He's pitched plenty on the back fields while vying for a multi-inning relief role. "There's consistency with the stuff," manager Torey Lovullo told Owen Perkins of MLB.com. "He pitches to spots, pitches to a game plan. I think there's an opportunity to see what he can do in certain situations and give us some length." Solomon was selected in the Rule 5 draft over the winter and could grab a bullpen spot. The decision appears to hinge on whether Lovullo is comfortable moving whichever young starter -- Drey Jameson or Ryne Nelson -- loses out on the No. 5 job to relief.

The Pirates claimed Solomon off waivers from the Astros on Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

The 26-year-old right-hander had been one of the top pitching prospects in the upper levels of the Astros' farm system, but Houston's ample starting depth at the big-league level made it tough for Solomon to get an extended opportunity in the majors. Though he'll head to Triple-A with his new organization, the Pirates should at least present Solomon with a clearer path to pitching meaningful innings in the majors either later this year or next season. Over his 97 innings at Triple-A Sugar Land in 2022, Solomon posted a 5.20 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 88:44 K:BB in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.
