Pat Burrell (foot) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Wednesday with High-A San Jose. He'll serve as the designated hitter Wednesday. Burrell hasn't played since July 14 due to a bone spur in his right foot. The 34-year-old was batting .233/.342/.419 with seven homers and a .760 OPS prior to the injury, but he won't be of much use to the Giants if he can't run without discomfort.

Pat Burrell (foot) has been able to take swings without discomfort, but still can't run. The Giants aren't expecting Burrell, who has a bone spur in his foot, to return until the middle of September. He's batting .233/.342/.419 this year with seven home runs.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy is expecting Pat Burrell (foot) to return to the Giants sometime in September. That is, if Burrell doesn't opt to undergo foot surgery. If he chooses to have the procedure, his career and season could both be over. The veteran outfielder is the owner of a .233/.342/.419 triple slash line with seven homers in 172 at-bats.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Pat Burrell will fly out Wednesday to get another opinion on his foot injury. Bochy added that Burrell is not close to returning. The veteran is dealing with a bone spur in his foot, an issue that he's battled for a good chunk of the season. We should know more about his status following Wednesday's exam.

Pat Burrell will not be released Thursday. CSNBayArea.com reported late Wednesday night that Burrell would be let go on Thursday to clear a roster spot for Carlos Beltran. But Burrell is still on the 15-day disabled list with a bone spur in his right foot and is not eligible to be cut.

The Giants are expected to release Pat Burrell and option Brandon Belt to Triple-A Fresno in order to clear room on the 40-man and 25-man rosters for Carlos Beltran. Burrell is currently on the disabled list with a bone spur in his right foot and it's unclear when he would be ready to return. The Giants evidently don't want to wait and find out. He was batting .233/.342/.419 before landing on the DL. Belt has four hits in 12 at-bats since rejoining the big club earlier this month, but with the addition of Beltran and Aubrey Huff still around to cover first base, he wasn't going to get a ton of playing time.

Giants placed OF Pat Burrell on the 15-day disabled list with a bone spur in his right foot. Burrell's foot has been bothering him for a while now, limiting him to just two starts this month, and the Giants have decided to shut him down in hopes that it will get better. He'll carry a .233/.342/.419 batting line to the disabled list. Cody Ross will get most of the playing time in left field.

Pat Burrell drew a one-out walk in ninth inning pinch-hitting duty on Monday. Manager Bruce Bochy pinch-ran for Burrell, indicating that the veteran's foot likely remains too sore to run on. Burrell has been held out of the starting lineup for four straight days. He is still carrying a .235 batting average.

An MRI on Pat Burrell's right foot has come back negative. Burrell had to exit Thursday's game after feeling soreness in the foot, an ailment that was caused by an old bone spur. Consider him day-to-day.
