Syndergaard was released by the White Sox on Sunday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Syndergaard signed a minor-league deal with Chicago in late June, but he will now become a free agent once again. The right-hander gave up nine runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out two batters over eight innings in two starts with Triple-A Charlotte. Syndergaard hasn't pitched in the majors since 2023, and he may now look for another opportunity to revive his career elsewhere.

Syndergaard agreed to a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Tuesday, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Syndergaard hasn't pitched professionally since 2023, when he posted a 6.50 ERA and 56:19 K:BB over 88.2 innings covering 18 starts for the Dodgers and Guardians. The 32-year-old is a longshot to contribute this season, but the rebuilding White Sox felt he was worth a roll of the dice on a minor-league deal. Syndergaard will report to Chicago's spring training complex in Arizona for now before eventually being assigned to a minor-league affiliate.

Syndergaard has been working out at Kova Sports baseball training center in Texas as he prepares for a potential return to Major League Baseball, Pat Ragazzo of New York Mets on SI reports.
EDGE Analysis
Syndergaard, 32, hasn't appeared in the big leagues since August of 2023 and is "in the stages of getting comfortable with throwing at high intensity again" after losing 30 pounds earlier in the offseason. The right-hander is not ready to throw in front of scouts yet but plans to eventually hold a showcase in hopes of landing a contract.

Syndergaard is working on his mechanics and keeping his body in shape with the hope that he'll find a team to sign with ahead of the 2025 season, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Syndergaard was cut loose by the Guardians in August of 2023 after struggling mightily, but the right-hander evidently still believes he has enough left in the tank to contribute for an MLB club. Heyman notes that Syndergaard is also hoping to lose some weight prior to the 2025 campaign, and he'll likely schedule a few open throwing sessions during the offseason to attract the attention of scouts.

The Guardians released Syndergaard on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander was removed from Cleveland's 40-man roster over the weekend and is now officially a free agent after passing through waivers unclaimed. Syndergaard has posted a 6.50 ERA in 18 starts this season for the Dodgers and Guardians but could latch on with some team in need of an arm to eat innings.

Syndergaard did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing five runs on four hits and three walks over six innings in a 10-7 win over the Blue Jays. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Syndergaard held a one-run lead as he entered the sixth but served up a two-run go-ahead homer to Davis Schneider that left him in position for the loss. The Guardians then reclaimed the lead in the top of the eighth to take Syndergaard off the hook. This start marked the third time in six appearances for the Guardians that Syndergaard has allowed five earned runs. He'll look to rebound as he's penciled in to start next weekend at home against the Rays.

Syndergaard was designated for assignment by the Guardians on Sunday, Julia Kreuz of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Syndergaard was traded from the Dodgers to the Guardians in late July, and he made six starts for his new club. He was inconsistent during his time with Cleveland and will lose his spot on the 40-man roster after giving up five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three in six innings Sunday against the Blue Jays. Cal Quantrill (shoulder) is slated to return from the injured list this week, so Syndergaard was no longer needed as a starter. If he clears waivers, it wouldn't be surprising to see Syndergaard elect free agency so he can seek out another organization for the final month of the regular season.

Syndergaard came away with a no-decision Tuesday in the Guardians' win over the Dodgers, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander wasn't dominant, managing only nine swinging strikes among his 95 pitches, but Syndergaard did deliver his first quality start since April. He's alternated solid outings with poor ones since coming over to Cleveland at the trade deadline, but his overall 4.94 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 15:7 K:BB through 27.1 innings makes him an unappealing fantasy option in most formats. He'll look to build some momentum in his next start, likely to come this weekend in Toronto.

Syndergaard (1-1) earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks over 5.2 innings in a 4-3 victory over Toronto. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Syndergaard struggled early, allowing five hits and a walk over the first two innings, though it would only lead to one coming across for Toronto. The veteran right-hander settled in after that, hurling three consecutive 1-2-3 innings before once again running into trouble in the sixth. He was replaced by Nick Sandlin with two outs in the frame, just missing out on a quality start, but he's now allowed one run or fewer in two of his first three starts since joining the Guardians. It also marked Syndergaard's first win since April 30.

Syndergaard (1-5) pitched six innings against the White Sox on Saturday, allowing five runs on nine hits and no walks while striking out three batters.
EDGE Analysis
While Syndergaard was able to give Cleveland decent length, throwing 83 pitches over six frames, he had trouble keeping the ball in the park. The right-hander served up four homers, including three across the third and fourth innings. Syndergaard at least seemed to be physically fine after departing his previous contest as a result of taking a comebacker off his lower right leg, but this was a step back compared to that outing, during which he allowed just one run over 5.1 frames. The veteran hurler is getting a shot in the Guardians' rotation due to a slew of injuries to other starters, but he's struggled to get big-league hitters out this season, compiling a 6.75 ERA over 14 starts between Cleveland and the Dodgers.
