Castellanos said Friday that he would "really welcome" playing first base, if asked, MLB Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Castellanos has never played first base before and has been a full-time right fielder since 2018. However, he came up through the minors as a third baseman and that was his primary position through his first five seasons in the big leagues, so he's not foreign to the infield. Castellanos is set to make $20 million in 2026 in his final year under contract with the Phillies, but the expectation is he will be either traded or released by Philadelphia this offseason.

Castellanos went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Dodgers on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Castellanos started each of the final three games and went 2-for-15 with five strikeouts in the series. Despite the poor overall numbers, he delivered a key knock in Thursday's loss by doubling in the seventh inning to give the Phillies a lead. Castellanos is entering the final year of his current contract with the team, but he could be a trade candidate or otherwise have a change of scenery this offseason after managing only a 90 wRC+ across 589 plate appearances in 2025.

Castellanos went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and an additional RBI in Friday's 8-2 win over the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
The homer was Castellanos' first in over a month -- his last homer was Aug. 17 versus the Nationals. The outfielder has gone 17-for-64 (.266) over his last 20 games while occupying a short-side platoon role for much of that time. He's now at 17 homers, 69 RBI, 71 runs scored, four stolen bases and a .255/.299/.411 slash line across 140 contests.

Castellanos is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
Castellanos got off to a rough start to August, but his bat began to heat back up over the past week, with the 33-year-old going 9-for-24 with a solo home run, two doubles, two walks and seven runs over his past six starts. The Phillies will still send Castellanos to the bench for the second time in five games, with Harrison Bader entering the lineup in center field and getting flanked by Brandon Marsh in left and Max Kepler in right.
