Ashley was reassigned to minor league camp Friday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Mariners made their final round of cuts Friday in advance of Opening Day and Ashley was one of seven players to be optioned or reassigned. Ashley joined the Mariners in the offseason as a non-roster invitee and collected five hits over 12 at-bats this spring. He'll provide organizational depth at catcher while Mike Zunino and Carlos Ruiz stick with the big league club.

Ashley signed a minor league deal with the Mariners that includes an invitation to spring training, the Tacoma News Tribune's Bob Dutton reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 32-year-old backstop made it to the majors for a 12-game run with the Brewers in 2015, but has otherwise been a career minor leaguer. He brings valuable experience to the table and works well with young pitchers, but is not a realistic option for significant time in the big leagues.

Ashley signed a minor league deal that includes an invite to spring training with the Mets on Friday, The Record's Matt Ehalt reports.
EDGE Analysis
Travis d'Arnaud and Kevin Plawecki are the pretty clear top two catchers on the organizational depth chart, so look for Ashley to serve as an organizational soldier in 2016, spending most of the year at Triple-A.

Ashley was returned to minor-league camp Tuesday. With Jonathan Lucroy and Martin Maldonado both healthy, Ashley had no shot of making the Opening Day roster. He may only be the fourth catcher in the organization, as Juan Centeno appears to be higher in the pecking order.

Rays designated C Nevin Ashley for assignment. The move was made in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Luke Scott. A former sixth-round pick, Ashley batted .263/.358/.384 with eight homers and 48 RBI between Double- and Triple-A in 2011. He seems likely to clear waivers and remain in the organization.
