Rangers purchased the contract of LHP Neal Cotts from Triple-A Round Rock.
Cotts hasn't appeared in the majors since 2009 but has earned a call-up with some brilliant work at Triple-A, where he's posted a 0.78 ERA and absurd 42/5 K/BB ratio over 23 innings. He'll be used in middle relief.

Neal Cotts will be sidelined for 7-10 days with a strained left lat muscle.
It's unfortunate timing for Cotts, who hasn't pitched in the majors the last two seasons but looked good enough in camp that he was going to earn a roster spot. Robbie Ross is the lone left-hander standing for the Rangers.

Neal Cotts was promoted to major league camp.
Cotts impressed Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux with his early throwing sessions and will now get looks in Cactus League games. The 31-year-old lefty hasn't pitched in a major league game in two years because of injuries, but he's on track to change that this season.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that free agent reliever Neal Cotts is throwing well but is unable to pass a physical because of a bad hip.
Cotts had a procedure on his hip back in June of 2010 and evidently still isn't totally healthy. He hasn't appeared in a major league game since May of 2009, as he also had Tommy John surgery during that stretch. Cafardo thinks Cotts "could easily pitch in the majors, bad hip and all," but it doesn't sound like the 31-year-old is drawing much interest.
