Eovaldi has quality starts in four straight games, and he'll look to keep rolling in Oakland next week.

The right-hander was able to get through three more innings and was in line for the win until Cincinnati made a late-inning comeback. Eovaldi has gotten through six innings in three consecutive starts and currently holds a 5.20 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP with a 31:5 K:BB across his first five outings (27.2 innings).

Eovaldi tossed his first quality start of the year and had a nice bounce-back game after the Royals pummeled him for six runs on April 12. He got off to an undesirable start, giving up a leadoff triple to Bobby Witt and allowing him to score on a sacrifice fly. Eovaldi wound up surrendering another run in the fourth but otherwise held the Royals in check for the majority of the game. The 33-year-old lowered his ERA to a 5.40 to go along with a 1.48 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB over 21.2 innings. He'll look to build on the strong start in a projected road matchup with the Reds next week.

The Royals racked up four extra-base hit against Eovaldi, including Vinnie Pasquantino's solo homer in the third inning. Though Eovaldi didn't walk any batters for the first time this season and tallied a campaign-best seven punchouts, he couldn't overcome a flurry of 10 total hits that led to six runs. The right-hander has gone at least five innings in all three of his starts so far this season, but he currently holds a 6.32 ERA and 1.53 WHIP. Eovaldi's fantasy managers may find hope, however, in the fact that he's yielded an unusually high .444 BABIP and that his FIP currently sits at a much more promising 2.39.

The right-hander put together a strong outing, coming one out short of a quality start and tossing 56 of 89 pitches for strikes, but he got outdueled by Marcus Stroman. Eovaldi will take a 4.22 ERA and 12:3 K:BB through 10.2 innings into his next start, likely to come at home next week against the Royals.

Eovaldi, who was hit on the right leg by a comebacker Saturday, said he had no residual effects Sunday and remains scheduled to start Friday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

He has yet to allow a run through 10.1 innings this spring and boasts an overall 13:1 K:BB. The 33-year-old right-hander battled a side injury in the early part of camp but now looks fully ready to take his first scheduled turn in the Rangers' season-opening starting rotation. Texas signed Eovaldi to a two-year, $34 million contract in December.

This was Eovaldi's second Cactus League start but first since he sustained a side injury at the beginning of the month. The right-hander's fastball, which averaged 95.8 mph last season, sat in the upper 90s, touching 99 mph multiple times, per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. "I felt like I was ahead in the counts, felt like I used all my pitches," the pitcher said. "The only thing I need to work on doing better at is executing with two strikes." With Jacob deGrom ready to start Sunday, it looks like the Rangers' projected rotation is healthy as the regular season looms. As suggested earlier by manager Bruce Bochy, both Eovaldi and deGrom could be on restricted counts early.
