2012 Fantasy Baseball Spring Training Report: Trout to Minors, Cubs... fantasyalarm.com Wed 2/29/12 1:54 PM
It looks like Mike Trout will start the year in the minors. Are you surprised? Ryan Howard will likely start the year on the DL as he had a minor setback with his recovery from Achilles surgery. The Braves have players dealing with injury (Freddie Freeman and Tommy Hanson), and Mike Napoli's ankle issue is still hindering him. Meanwhile, Hall of Fame bound Vlad Guerrero is still trying to find work. Finally, I'll address who will play first base for the Cubs this year an it might not be who you think it might be. Wow, I set back the English language about 55 years with that last sentence.
Trout to Start Year in Minors
I've been saying it for months now, but I don't think many people have been listening. No, I don't mean that I've been telling people that I'm good looking, I've been saying that for a good two decades, I'm talking about my prediction for playing time with the Angels. All along I've been saying that I just couldn't see where Mike Trout fit into the current mix. Guess what? Turns out I was right.
The first issue is that Trout is only 20 years old. Despite being widely regarded as one of the handful of prospects in the game who could lay claim to the "top prospect in baseball," he simply doesn't have much professional baseball under his belt (he has 123 big league at-bats and 1,040 minor league at-bats). The second issue with Trout is that there are so many options that the Angels could turn to all over the field. In the outfield, Trout's position, the club figures to roll out there Torii Hunter, Peter Bourjos and Vernon Wells. They've also got Bobby Abreu in the mix. At first base they have Kendrys Morales and Mark Trumbo. At third, Alberto Callaspo, Maicer Izturis and the aforementioned Trumbo could see work. The bottom line is that the...
Mike Trout, 2012 Fantasy Outlook razzball.com Mon 11/7/11 3:15 AM
A quick preamble about the 2012 fantasy rookie series that is coming all this month. Rookies are picked through MLB eligibility requirements, less than 130 ABs or 50 IP. That means no Brett Lawrie, no Lonnie Chisenhall, no Mike Moustakas. Last November I said, he is the best prospect currently in the game with under [...]
