Mike Moustakas played six innings at second base in Thursday's Cactus League loss to the Angels. Moustakas had never played the positions as a professional, though he did begin his career as a shortstop. Chances are he'll never be used at second base during the regular season, but the Royals are considering him as an emergency option at the position.

Mike Moustakas went 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in the Royals' 6-0 win over the Rangers on Monday. Moustakas is now batting .486 (17-for-35) with 15 RBI this spring. Cactus League stats are mostly meaningless, but the third baseman has always been a bright talent and may be ready to break out at age 25. He's worth a late-round flier in mixed leagues.

Mike Moustakas went 3-for-3 with a home run against the Athletics on Wednesday. Moustakas hit his fourth home run of the spring, a solo shot off of Sean Doolittle in the sixth inning. He also singled and doubled off of Scott Kazmir, bumping his average up to .500 in 26 Cactus League at-bats. He could very well be a fantastic buy-low candidate late in the draft.

Mike Moustakas went 2-for-3 with four runs batted in against the D'Backs on Wednesday. Moustakas put the Royals on the board in the first inning with an RBI single, then slugged a three-run home run against Joe Paterson in the seventh inning. Moustakas now has three home runs thus far. He hasn't lived up to the expectations, but as he is just 25 years old, the future is still bright.

Mike Moustakas belted a pair of homers and drove home three runs on Sunday, powering the Royals to a 5-3 victory over the Cubs in Cactus League action. Moustakas finished the afternoon 2-for-3. He got the Royals on the board with a towering blast off Edwin Jackson in the second inning, and followed it up with an encore performance against Carlos Villanueva the following frame. It's the second straight three-RBI game for Moustakas who has been murdering the baseball so far this spring.

Mike Moustakas went 2-for-2 and drove home three runs, leading the Royals to an 11-1 victory over the Rangers in Cactus League play on Friday. Moustakas also walked and scored a run in the ballgame. After a disappointing 2013 season where he slashed a meager .233/.287/.364, the second overall selection from the 2007 draft now looks like a strong post-hype sleeper candidate that can be had in the later rounds of fantasy drafts.

Mike Moustakas has lost about 10 pounds this offseason and worked on his swing during the Venezuelan Winter League. Moustakas worked on hitting the ball up the middle and to the opposite field and wound up batting .288 with three homers and six doubles in 17 games. He also hit a solid .259 against lefties. Moustakas is looking for a bounce-back season after batting just .233/.287/.364 with 12 homers last year. The Royals have said he's their everyday third baseman, but it wouldn't be a surprise if, at the very least, he falls into a platoon with Danny Valencia.

Royals general manager Dayton Moore said Thursday that Mike Moustakas is the club's "everyday third baseman." Moustakas has been limited to a lowly .222/.275/.332 batting line versus southpaws in his career, while new addition Danny Valencia has mashed them to the tune of a .329/.367/.513 line. However, the Royals aren't ready to give up on Moose as an everyday player. "Mike Moustakas is our everyday third baseman," Moore said. "It just gives us more depth, and our job as a baseball operations staff is that Ned (Yost) and the coaching staff have as much depth as possible and are in a position to match up as they see fit on any given night."

Royals manager Ned Yost said on MLB Network on Tuesday that Mike Moustakas will play winter ball in Venezuela. Moustakas disappointed yet again this season, batting .233/.287/.364 with 12 home runs over 514 plate appearances. He now owns a lousy .606 OPS against southpaws for his carer. The 25-year-old should open spring training as the favorite for the starting third base job, but time is running out for him.
