Montgomery (3-9) took the loss Saturday as the Royals fell 6-1 to the Astros, giving up two runs on five hits and five walks over five innings. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
The southpaw threw only 48 of 86 pitches for strikes, but despite the parade of baserunners Montgomery did a solid job limiting the damage. Unfortunately, he had little margin for error with Zack Greinke in top form for Houston. Montgomery will carry a 4.70 ERA and 62:30 K:BB through 82.1 innings into his next start Thursday in Minnesota.

Montgomery (2-6) gave up five runs on eight hits and zero walks while striking out two in four innings Sunday in Miami. He took the loss.
EDGE Analysis
Montgomery has been averaging a blowup outing every third time out over his past six starts, mixing in a handful of effective starts in between the poor ones. While he has shown an ability to be a quality fantasy streamer, this rough showing against a Marlins team that ranks dead-last in the majors with a 76 wRC+ should make fantasy owners wary about deploying him, especially in shallower leagues. He faces the team with the best offense in baseball (123 wRC+) when the Astros come to town next weekend.

Montgomery held the Tigers to one run in 5.2 innings Tuesday but did not factor into the decision. He allowed six hits and one walk while striking out five.
EDGE Analysis
Montgomery has now given up one run or less in four of his last five starts but was kept out of the win column Tuesday due to a leaky Kansas City bullpen. The southpaw limited Detroit to a single third-inning run while falling one out short of his fourth quality start of the season. Montgomery holds a 4.42 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 59:25 K:BB across 73.1 innings with the Cubs and Royals this season and will next head to Miami to face the Marlins on Sunday.

Montgomery (3-7) took the loss Tuesday as the Royals fell 2-1 to the A's, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks over 6.1 innings while striking out six.
EDGE Analysis
The southpaw righted the ship after a rough first inning that featured two infield singles, a two-out error by Cheslor Cuthbert and then a bases-loaded walk, but that run proved to be the difference. Montgomery has a 3.98 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 36:11 K:BB through eight starts and 40.2 innings since joining the Kansas City rotation, and he'll look for more run support in his next outing Sept. 3, at home against the Tigers.

Montgomery (3-6) allowed five earned runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three across five innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
Montgomery was burned by the long ball as he allowed three homers, accounting for four of his five earned runs. He had been on a strong run entering Wednesday's start, allowing only seven earned runs across 27.1 innings with 26 punchouts in his last five starts. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, currently scheduled for Tuesday against the Athletics.

Montgomery (3-5) picked up the win in Friday's 4-1 victory over the Mets, giving up an unearned run on five hits and two walks over six innings while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
The dominance the southpaw flashed in his last start disappeared, but he was still stingy enough to outduel a resurgent Noah Syndergaard. Montgomery now sports a 3.68 ERA and 27:5 K:BB through six starts and 29.1 innings since joining the Royals, and he'll look for his third straight win in Baltimore on Wednesday.

Montgomery (2-5) earned the win after recording 12 strikeouts over seven shutout innings Saturday at Detroit. He allowed four hits and zero walks.
EDGE Analysis
Montgomery had only 30 strikeouts over 43.1 innings this season prior to Saturday, but he generated 21 swinging strikes while allowing only four singles to the Tigers. The 30-year-old has a 5.19 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 42:16 K:BB this season and lines up to pitch next weekend against the Mets.

Montgomery (1-5) took the loss Monday, giving up four runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk over five innings while striking out seven as the Royals were downed 7-5 by the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
A Nicky Lopez error in the third inning didn't help the cause, but Montgomery did record a season high in strikeouts while tossing 90 pitches (54 strikes). The lefty is still looking for his first win as a Royal, and he's take a 6.02 ERA and 30:16 K:BB through 43.1 innings into his next start Saturday in Detroit.

Montgomery (1-4) took the loss against the Blue Jays on Tuesday, giving up four earned runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings, striking out four and walking one as the Royals fell 9-2.
EDGE Analysis
Montgomery limited the Indians to one earned over five innings in his last start, but he couldn't keep it rolling in this contest, as he found himself unable to work out of the fifth inning before departing after yielding four runs and tossing 78 pitches. He's given up 10 earned runs over his first 11.1 innings with the Royals, but his rotation spot figures to remain safe for the moment given that he's still adjusting to a starting role after coming out of the bullpen for the Cubs before he was traded.

Montgomery hurled five innings and gave up one run on five hits and one walk but did not factor into the decision against Cleveland on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
After giving up five runs in two innings in his previous appearance against the Indians, Montgomery was much more effective Thursday, yielding a leadoff home run to Francisco Lindor but proceeding to keep runs off the scoreboard for the remainder of his outing. He did not collect any strikeouts and allowed at least one baserunner in every inning but successfully prevented Kansas City from stringing together hits. The 30-year-old is still getting stretched out after spending most of the season in the Cubs' bullpen but looks to have a set spot in the Kansas City rotation. He'll face Toronto on Tuesday in his next scheduled start.
