Montgomery (lat) was activated off the 45-day injured list Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The left-hander landed on the shelf with the lat strain after making his season debut July 27, but he'll rejoin the active roster for the final few games of the season. According to Alec Lewis of The Athletic, Montgomery should work out of the bullpen and is built up to cover multiple innings.

Montgomery (lat) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Montgomery struggled to his only outing of the year before landing on the 10-day injured list with a strained lat in late July, The injury was evidently rather serious, as he'll now be out until very late in the season if he returns at all.

Montgomery was placed on the injured list with a strained lat Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Montgomery's poor health could partially explain his poor season debut, in which he allowed five runs (three earned) in just two innings in a start against the Tigers. It's not clear when he's expected to return.

Montgomery allowed five runs (three earned) on five hits Monday while striking out one batter in the win over Detroit. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Montgomery allowed all five runs in a brutal second frame, including a three-run blast from JaCoby Jones. Fortunately, the Royals caught fire at the plate, scoring 14 runs and preventing the 31-year-old from being tagged with a loss. Montgomery should take the mound again Sunday afternoon at home against the White Sox.

Montgomery is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Tigers, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The left-hander at one point lined up to start the second game of the season against the Indians, but he'll end up taking the mound Monday in a more favorable matchup. The 31-year-old had a 4.64 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 51:21 K:BB over 64 innings (13 starts) after being acquired by the Royals in July last year.

Montgomery lines up to start the second game of the season Saturday in Cleveland, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
He will start Monday's exhibition game against the Astros, which lines him up to follow Danny Duffy in the Royals' rotation. Montgomery would then line up to face the Tigers on the road in the second week of the season, which could be an appealing spot start in deeper leagues.

Montgomery gave up five earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five in seven innings (three appearances) this spring.
EDGE Analysis
It wasn't a great spring training for Montgomery, but his spot in the middle of the Royals' rotation appears safe. He built up to 55 pitches in his final spring outing and should be ready to go when play resumes.

Montgomery and the Royals avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.1 million deal Monday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Montgomery didn't have the smoothest of seasons in 2019, as his ERA slipped to 4.95 in 91 innings between the Royals and the Cubs after coming in below 4.00 in each of the three previous years. He'll likely have a chance to get back on track in the Royals' rotation in 2020.

Montgomery did not factor into the decision during Wednesday's loss to the Braves, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four across 4.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
After recording two outs in the fifth inning, Montgomery quickly unraveled. He walked Ozzie Albies, then gave up an RBI double to Josh Donaldson and an RBI single to Nick Markakis before getting yanked. The left-hander was making his 13th start for Kansas City, during which he went just 2-7. Even still, Montgomery has a good chance at returning to the Royals' rotation next season. He finishes the year with a 4.64 ERA and 1.55 WHIP across 33 appearances.

Montgomery did not factor into the decision against Minnesota on Thursday, pitching four innings and giving up five runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
While Montgomery's control was vastly improved over his previous appearance in which he allowed five walks, he was roughed up by a potent Twins offense that launched three home runs against him. The frustration seemed to simmer into a boiling point in the fifth inning when Montgomery was ejected -- presumably for arguing balls and strikes -- after surrendering a homer to Mitch Garver. The rough outing marked the third time in Montgomery's last six starts in which he has given up five runs, a period in which his ERA has ballooned from 3.68 to 5.00. He'll look for better results when he takes on Atlanta on Wednesday at home in his next scheduled start.
