Dunn (forearm) is expected to return to the majors by the end of May, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The reliever had a bit of a scare when he experienced a setback while rehabbing the forearm issue, but he appears to be trending in the right direction now. His return will be a welcome site for a Marlins bullpen that is currently without a left-handed reliever.

Dunn (forearm) had a setback during a recent bullpen session and will be examined by the team's medical staff, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
A pitcher having a setback when he's already dealing with a forearm injury is certainly a reason for concern, and Miami Herald beat reporter Clark Spencer reports that Dunn "felt it grab" during his bullpen session. Dunn will meet with team doctors to determine the significance of the setback and a new timetable for his return should be available shortly thereafter.

Dunn (undisclosed) has been placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to March 25.
EDGE Analysis
Dunn hadn't been dealing with a widely-reported ailment, but will open the season on the disabled list nonetheless. The lefty reliever will first be eligible for reinstatement on April 9.

Dunn finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 4.50 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over 54 innings for the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
The 30-year-old reliever remained a workhorse out of the Miami bullpen, logging 70+ appearances for the fourth time in the last five years and he finished with 20 holds, making it the third straight season he's collected 20+ holds. His overall numbers are down from the past two seasons, but it is difficult to find a significant skills regression that would prevent Dunn from bouncing back in 2016. Overall, Dunn's walk rate ticked up and he allowed a couple more home runs than in 2014 while his velocity and strikeout rates remained in line with career norms.

Dunn took the loss Friday night, allowing one run on one hit while retiring just one hitter in the Marlins 5-3 loss to Atlanta.
Both Dunn and Bryan Morris were mentioned as possible closer options when Steve Cishek was removed from the role earlier this week, but both pitched in the eighth inning (and both allowed runs) which suggests A.J. Ramos will indeed get the first opportunity to step into the closer's gig.

Dunn could be in the mix for save opportunities, MLB.com reports.
Manager Mike Redmond noted that Dunn, A.J. Ramos and Bryan Morris would be the primary options to replace a struggling Steve Cishek. The lefty reliever is rounding into form after a shaky start, reeling off seven straight scoreless appearances. Dunn has experience stepping in on a limited basis when the team has needed a fill-in closer in the past, but Ramos has a higher ceiling in the role.

Dunn allowed two hits during a scoreless eighth in Thursday's blowout victory over the Phillies.
The scoreless inning was badly needed for Dunn who, along with much of the Marlins' bullpen, has scuffled to start the year. Over his previous two outings, Dunn had allowed five earned runs on four hits and two walks over 1.2 innings. For the season, he holds an ugly 7.71 ERA, but has only permitted one earned run outside of those two poor appearances and boasts a solid 8:2 K:BB ratio. The lefty has been a rock for the Marlins over the past several years and he should continue to shave down that ERA in the coming weeks.

Dunn tossed a scoreless inning Friday against the Braves, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.
After getting lit up for four earned runs in his previous appearance, the lefty settled down a bit as he continues to get ready for Opening Day. Dunn's spring numbers are tough to swallow, he's proven to a workhorse out the Miami bullpen while appearing in 75 games in each of the past two seasons. Dunn racked up 22 holds for the Marlins last season and is positioned once-again to perform well again as a late-inning left-hander to compliment setup man A.J. Ramos as the bridge to closer Steve Cishek.

Dunn signed a two-year, $5.8 million contract to avoid arbitration, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.
Dunn was an effective reliever for Miami in 2013 and 2014, but his win total (10) last season was incredibly fluky, and he only has four career saves. While he doesn't appear to be next in line for saves in the event of a Steve Cishek injury, Dunn has shown an ability to retire both left-handed and right-handed batters. If the Miami bullpen is unusually injury-plagued, Dunn could thus be an option to close games.

Dunn retired the final better of Tuesday's 3-0 win against the Cardinals to earn his first save of the season.
Dunn struck out lefty Matt Adams to complete a combined shutout between starter Jarred Cozart and three Marlins relievers. The save comes on a rare night off for regular stopper Steve Cishek who had pitched in three of the previous four games. With Dunn coming in to retire the final batter, it's difficult to see this situation being much more than matchup-driven usage; Bryan Morris and A.J. Ramos remain well ahead of Dunn for save opportunities behind Cishek.
