Burrows did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Nationals, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk over 4.1 innings. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
Burrows has made back-to-back starts for the Pirates, allowing four runs across 8.1 innings while striking out 12 in that span. Overall, the 25-year-old right-hander sports a 4.10 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP and 94:31 K:BB across 90 innings this season. Should he remain in the rotation, Burrows would tentatively line up to face the A's at home his next time out.

Burrows is slated to start Sunday's game against the Nationals in Washington.
EDGE Analysis
After making a pair of relief appearances Aug. 30 and Sept. 3, Burrows slotted back into a starting role Tuesday against the Orioles, though the Pirates continued to manage his workload in his first full season back from April 2023 Tommy John surgery. In his start versus Baltimore, Burrows struck out six and generated 14 whiffs while permitting one run on two runs and one walk, but he was lifted after just four innings and 56 pitches. Braxton Ashcraft ended up piggybacking Burrows and covered three innings out of the bullpen, and the two appear likely to be deployed in tandem again Sunday, barring Ashcraft being used in relief behind starter Bubba Chandler on Saturday. Assuming the Pirates go with the Burrows/Ashcraft pairing again in the series finale in Washington, Burrows could struggle to reach the five innings he would need to qualify for a win.

Burrows allowed one run on two hits and a walk while striking out six over four innings Tuesday versus the Orioles. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Burrows had his stuff working in his return to the rotation, racking up 14 whiffs on 56 pitches, while his six strikeouts tied his most in an outing under five innings. He's now posted a 3.22 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 46:13 K:BB in 44.2 innings over the second half of the season and is lined up to take the mound again this weekend versus the Nationals.

Burrows is listed as the Pirates' probable starting pitcher for Tuesday's game in Baltimore.
EDGE Analysis
In an effort to keep Burrows' workload in check down the stretch, the Pirates deployed him in relief for his last two appearances, but the right-hander will slot back into the rotation this week as Pittsburgh opens a three-game set in Baltimore. Even though he's starting again, Burrows' is still likely to be subject to an unspecified innings and/or pitch limit, making it difficult to count on him pitching long enough to qualify for a win. In his most recent outing this past Wednesday against the Dodgers, Burrows had piggybacked Braxton Ashcraft, but the two pitchers could reverse roles Tuesday. Ashcraft isn't listed as a starter for the series in Baltimore, so he'll presumably be available to work behind Burrows.

Burrows pushed his record to 2-4 after striking out two batters while allowing two hits and one walk in three scoreless innings of relief during Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Burrows made his second straight appearance in relief, though unlike the previous occasion, his usage Wednesday seemed to be a pre-planned arrangement. Despite keeping the Dodgers off the board through three innings, starter Braxton Ashcraft was lifted after tossing just 71 pitches, clearing the way for Burrows to step in and piggyback him while the Pirates held a two-run lead. Since the Pirates are likely looking to limit the innings of both Ashcraft and Burrows in September without having to shut down either pitcher, the two could continue to be deployed in tandem in Ashcraft's future starts.

Burrows struck out two and allowed one earned run on five hits over two innings of relief In Saturday's 10-3 win over the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Though Burrows had been one of the team's top starters since the All-Star break with a 3.53 ERA and 0.98 WHIP over his previous seven outings, the Pirates opted to shift him to the bullpen this weekend. The role change was seemingly motivated by a desire to keep Burrows' workload in check, as the right-hander has already totaled 108.2 frames between the majors and minors in 2025 after accruing 54.2 innings in 2024 once he completed his recovery from his April 2023 Tommy John surgery. The Pirates haven't offered up a precise target for Burrows' innings count this season, and it's unclear if or when he might rejoin the rotation. Per Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com, the Pirates aren't listing Burrows among their starters for their three-game series with the Dodgers that begins Tuesday, so the 25-year-old appears set to remain in the bullpen for at least this week.

Pirates manager Don Kelly said that Burrows won't make a start during this weekend's series versus the Red Sox but should be available in relief, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Burrows tossed four shutout innings in his most recent start Saturday to lower his ERA to 4.23, but Kelly said the right-hander's turn through the rotation this week will be skipped in an effort to manage his workload. After being limited to 54.2 innings last year due to April 2023 Tommy John surgery, Burrows has already doubled that total in 2025 between his stops with Pittsburgh and Triple-A Indianapolis. The Pirates haven't yet discussed shutting him down for the season, but the team's workload management plan could result in him missing another start or two in September. Burrows could also be deployed as a tandem starter with fellow rookie Bubba Chandler, who has covered four innings in each of his first two MLB relief appearances while piggybacking Graham Ashcraft and Carmen Mlodzinski.

Burrows did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Rockies, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out five over four scoreless innings.
EDGE Analysis
Burrows threw 43 of 57 pitches for strikes and generated 10 whiffs but didn't last long enough to qualify for the win. It was the rookie's shortest outing since July 12, and with a career-high 105 frames already between the majors and Triple-A, his workload is likely being managed down the stretch. He'll take a 4.23 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 78:28 K:BB across 76.2 innings with the Pirates into a road matchup with the Cardinals next week.

Burrows came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Cubs, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie right-hander left the mound after just 68 pitches (45 strikes), and the Pirates may be monitoring his workload given that he threw only 54.2 innings across all levels in 2024 and is already up to 102.2 innings between Triple-A and the majors this season. Burrows was showing signs of fatigue in his prior two outings, surrendering four homers and 10 runs in 9.2 frames, but he didn't give up an extra-base hit to the Cubs on Saturday. He'll look for his first win since June 4 in his next start, which currently lines up to come at home next weekend against the Rockies.

Burrows did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 14-8 loss to the Reds, allowing four runs on three hits and one walk with six strikeouts over five innings.
EDGE Analysis
Burrows was undone by a four-run third inning, capped by a three-run homer from Miguel Andujar. He was otherwise sharp, tossing three perfect frames and generating 13 whiffs on just 74 pitches. The 25-year-old will take a 4.66 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 69:25 K:BB across 67.2 innings into a road matchup with the Cubs next weekend.
