Kopech allowed four runs on three hits and one walk while striking out two over one inning in Tuesday's game against the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Kopech is facing major-league hitters for the first time this spring, so it's understandable that the results were not good Tuesday. The right-hander with the legendary fastball lamented poor execution, particularly when he fell behind hitters. The 20-year-old Kopech, who is Chicago's third-ranked prospect according to RotoWire, is expected to open the season at High-A Winston-Salem or Double-A Birmingham.

Kopech needs to show White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper that he can locate his fastball where it needs to be thrown.
EDGE Analysis
Kopech has been putting maximum effort into every pitch, probably trying to impress the new club, but straight 100 mph fastballs that catch too much of the plate or are way outside the zone won't play in MLB. "Some guys can throw it 95," Cooper said. "Some guys throw it 85. It has to do with throwing the ball to the glove with movement." As legendary as Kopech's fastball has become, there's a lot of wildness in his game -- he walked 33 batters in 56.1 innings last season. The organization will beat the message into the right-hander that he can dial back the velocity and throw to his spots.

The Red Sox agreed to trade Kopech to the White Sox on Tuesday as part of the package for Chris Sale, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kopech and Yoan Moncada -- who were considered two of Boston's top four prospects -- are the headliners in the return for Sale. The 20-year-old Kopech split 2016 between Low-A and High-A, posting a 2.08 combined ERA and 86:33 K:BB over 12 starts. Scouts routinely praise Kopech's electric fastball, which has been clocked in the triple digits, and both his slider and changeup have been labeled plus offerings. He did, infamously, break his hand in a fight with a teammate this year, but Kopech has the stuff to become a frontline starter at the major league level.

Kopech pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out 10 for High-A Salem on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Kopech is emerging as one of the most overpowering pitchers in the minors. Wednesday's outing was his third consecutive with double-digit strikeouts as the young right-hander has piled up a 13.7 K/9 rate in 11 combined games between short-season Lowell and Salem.

Kopech fired five scoreless innings, permitting four hits and one walk while striking out eight for High-A Salem on Wednesday. In three starts this season, he has not allowed a run in 13.1 innings.
EDGE Analysis
A masterful performance for Kopech, who is trying to salvage the 2016 season after missing two-and-a-half months due to a fractured hand suffered during spring training while getting into an altercation with a teammate. He's anxious to put behind him the off-field problems that have surfaced the past year, including a 50-game suspension last season after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

Kopech (calf) made his debut for High-A Salem on Thursday, pitching four scoreless innings while giving up one hit and three walks. He struck out six and threw strikes on 40 of his 60 pitches.
EDGE Analysis
Kopech walked the first two batters faced, then settled down to dominate the Carolina Mudcats. In his final inning, Kopech struck out the side on nine pitches with his last pitch reaching 101 mph. The right-hander has said all the appropriate words about getting his career on track after a couple of off-field incidents.

Kopech (calf) will return to start Thursday's game at High-A Salem, the Boston Globe's Alex Speier reports.
EDGE Analysis
He missed the last three weeks with a calf injury, but will make his second minor league start of the year Thursday. Kopech remains one of the Red Sox's top pitching prospects, and could really do with a run of good luck here after missing time this season with a various injuries (one self-inflicted) in addition to 50 games at the end of last season due to a PED suspension.

Kopech was placed on the disabled list retroactive to June 24 with a calf strain, Ryan Hannable of WEEI.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kopech, who was set to make his debut at High-A Salem last Thursday, was a late scratch when he felt leg soreness while warming up prior to the game. The move to place him on the disabled list is precautionary and the right-hander is not expected to miss more than a start or two. The organization is eager to push Kopech, who had missed nearly a year of development after a 50-game suspension last year and a training-camp injury (fractured hand) that forced him to miss the first two-and-a-half months of 2016.

Kopech was scratched from his scheduled start Thursday due to a leg-muscle cramp, Andy Bitter of the Roanoke Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Boston's No. 5 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, had been scheduled to make his High-A debut after missing the first few months of the season due to a fractured pitching hand. The injury is not considered serious and the decision to scratch Kopech is being called a precaution.

Kopech will join High-A Salem in the coming days, where he should pitch for the foreseeable future, the Boston Globe's Alex Speier reports.
EDGE Analysis
He has had a tumultuous calendar year, getting suspended for taking a banned substance and then fracturing his throwing hand in an altercation with a teammate, but Kopech remains one of the Red Sox's top pitching prospects. The 20-year-old righty allowed four hits and four walks while striking out four over 4.1 scoreless frames in a rehab start with Short-Season Lowell last week, and figures to stick at Salem for the remainder of the 2016 season.
