Meyer will join the Marlins' big-league camp this spring.
EDGE Analysis
The third overall pick in the 2020 draft was robbed of the chance to make his professional debut last year thanks to the canceled minor-league season. While he's quite a talented young pitcher, that lack of experience means he's unlikely to be given serious consideration for an Opening Day roster spot.

The Marlins officially signed Meyer on Thursday and added him to their 60-man roster pool. His contract includes a $6.7 million signing bonus, per Jim Callis of MLB.com.
EDGE Analysis
The No. 3 overall pick in June's first-year player draft was believed to already have an agreement on a deal in place with the Marlins shortly after being selected, so it was fully expected that he would eventually put pen to paper. Now that he's done so, he'll report to the Marlins' training facility in Jupiter to participate in the organization's summer camp. The 21-year-old right-hander should be viewed as a longshot to crack the club's 30-man Opening Day roster, but with no minor-league season being played in 2020, Meyer will at least benefit developmentally by being around a team structure for the next few months. If Meyer pitches for the big club at all in 2020, it would likely come as a reliever.

Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said Monday that Meyer will be included in the team's 60-man roster pool once he signs with Miami, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
The No. 3 overall pick in June's first-year player draft is believed to already have a deal in place with Miami, but he has yet to officially put pen to paper on a contract. Once the deal is finalized, Meyer will join the Marlins for their "summer camp," but the right-hander isn't expected to be a factor for Miami once the MLB regular season begins in 2020. Instead, the Marlins' primary motive for including Meyer in their player pool is just to ensure that he's able to continue his development in a team setting with minor-league baseball not expected to be played in 2020.
