Meyer will join Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 2020 third-overall pick jumped straight to Double-A to begin his professional career this year and impressed over 20 starts. His 2.41 ERA comes with a 27.2 percent strikeout rate and a 52.7 percent groundball rate, which have more than offset a slightly high 9.6 percent walk rate. He'll spend a brief period of time in Jacksonville before the end of the season and will likely open next year at the same level, but he could push for a big-league debut sometime early in the season if he impresses in his early Triple-A starts.

Meyer is 4-1 with a 1.69 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 54:27 K:BB across 11 starts for Double-A Pensacola.
EDGE Analysis
He's given up one or zero runs in nine of those starts, but even so, Meyer doesn't appear quite ready for the big leagues. He's pitched around a 4.5 BB/9 successfully in Double-A, but that'll be much harder to do at baseball's highest level. It seems like it'd be best for Meyer's development to remain in the minors, work on his command, and refine his changeup. With the Marlins mired in last place in the NL East, they have no reason to rush him.

Meyer allowed one hit and one walk over five scoreless innings while striking out five to record the win for Double-A Pensacola on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Seeing his first game action since his final college start in March 2020, the third overall pick in that year's draft showed absolutely no rust, as Meyer dominated a Mississippi lineup that included top Atlanta prospects Braden Shewmake and Shea Langeliers. He fired 42 of 65 pitches for strikes in an efficient outing, peppering the strike zone with his plus fastball and slider. If Meyer keeps delivering starts like this, a promotion to Triple-A could follow in short order. A 2021 big-league debut in the bullpen isn't even out of the question if the Marlins are hunting for a playoff spot down the stretch and need reinforcements, but the organization is likely to keep a very close eye on his workload due to the long layoff.

Meyer won't see any Grapefruit League action this spring even though he's in big-league camp, Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald reports. "We don't want Max coming over to a game and trying to throw 100," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Thursday. "We want him to get ready to pitch this season, continue his development, and we think there's a real risk with those young guys kind of trying to impress and doing too much too early. It's a danger in camp and that's something we're gonna stay away from."
EDGE Analysis
The No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 draft will still be able to soak up a big-league atmosphere, but his pro debut will have to wait until the minor-league season begins. With two plus pitches in his slider and fastball, Meyer could get a very aggressive assignment to the high minors and be on the fast track to the majors if he dominates as expected.

Meyer will join the Marlins' big-league camp this spring.
EDGE Analysis
The third overall pick in the 2020 draft was robbed of the chance to make his professional debut last year thanks to the canceled minor-league season. While he's quite a talented young pitcher, that lack of experience means he's unlikely to be given serious consideration for an Opening Day roster spot.

The Marlins officially signed Meyer on Thursday and added him to their 60-man roster pool. His contract includes a $6.7 million signing bonus, per Jim Callis of MLB.com.
EDGE Analysis
The No. 3 overall pick in June's first-year player draft was believed to already have an agreement on a deal in place with the Marlins shortly after being selected, so it was fully expected that he would eventually put pen to paper. Now that he's done so, he'll report to the Marlins' training facility in Jupiter to participate in the organization's summer camp. The 21-year-old right-hander should be viewed as a longshot to crack the club's 30-man Opening Day roster, but with no minor-league season being played in 2020, Meyer will at least benefit developmentally by being around a team structure for the next few months. If Meyer pitches for the big club at all in 2020, it would likely come as a reliever.

Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said Monday that Meyer will be included in the team's 60-man roster pool once he signs with Miami, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
The No. 3 overall pick in June's first-year player draft is believed to already have a deal in place with Miami, but he has yet to officially put pen to paper on a contract. Once the deal is finalized, Meyer will join the Marlins for their "summer camp," but the right-hander isn't expected to be a factor for Miami once the MLB regular season begins in 2020. Instead, the Marlins' primary motive for including Meyer in their player pool is just to ensure that he's able to continue his development in a team setting with minor-league baseball not expected to be played in 2020.
