Fried (groin) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Fried suffered a strained left groin during Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals, and the injury is serious enough to warrant a stay on the disabled list. The southpaw will be eligible to return Aug. 17 should he prove ready. When Fried does return, it's unclear if he'll remain in a starting role or transition to the bullpen. Adam McCreery was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding roster move and will offer additional bullpen depth for big club.

Fried exited Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals with a left groin strain.
EDGE Analysis
Fried sustained the injury after being hit by a comebacker in the bottom of the second inning, and while he was able to finish out the frame, he was pinch hit for in the next inning. It's unclear how long the injury will keep him sidelined at this point. The southpaw was already expected to cede his rotation spot to Kevin Gausman moving forward, so if he's able to avoid a trip to the disabled list he'll likely be headed to Triple-A Gwinnett or the bullpen.

Fried was removed from Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals after being hit by a comebacker, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fried finished off the inning and walked off the field after taking a comebacker off his hip in the second inning, but Kevin Gausman came on to pinch hit for the southpaw in the top of the next frame. Specifics regarding the injury should clear up after he's further evaluated following Tuesday's contest. Fried struck out two and allowed one hit and one walk through two scoreless innings before exiting.

Fried will start the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals, David O'Brien of The Athletic Atlanta reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fried was expected to receive another turn in the rotation for one of the two contests, but his spot appears tenuous after the Orioles acquired Kevin Gausman prior to the MLB non-waiver trade deadline Tuesday. Following his next outing, a move to the bullpen or a demotion to Triple-A appear to be the scenarios on the table.

Fried is expected to start one game of the Braves' doubleheader Tuesday against the Nationals, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fried's hopes of maintaining a full-time starting role for the rest of the season were dealt a blow Tuesday when the Braves acquired Kevin Gausman from the Orioles, but it appears the young lefty won't be exiled from the rotation just yet. Due to Tuesday's doubleheader and another twin bill Aug. 13 against the Marlins, the Braves will go with a six-man starting staff out of necessity, with the main beneficiaries being Fried and/or Kolby Allard, who made his MLB debut earlier in the week before being optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett. Assuming he isn't used heavily out of the bullpen during the Braves' four-game slate with the Mets this weekend, Fried should re-enter the rotation Tuesday and face no strict limit with his pitch count.

Fried (finger) was activated from the 10-day DL prior to Saturday's start against the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
As expected, Fried will be back in action after missing the past three weeks due to a blister on his left middle finger. In a corresponding move, the club optioned Preston Tucker down to the minors. Through seven appearances (three starts) with Atlanta this year, Fried has logged a 3.92 ERA and 1.45 WHIP.

Fried (finger) will start Saturday's game against the Dodgers, David O'Brien of The Athletic Atlanta reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fried, who dazzled in his last rehab outing (10 strikeouts in 6.2 scoreless innings), should be allowed to stick in the rotation the rest of the way if he performs well. This will allow Sean Newcomb and Julio Teheran to get an extra day of rest. Fried has major strikeout upside, thanks to a monster curveball and 93-mph fastball from the left side. In 33 career innings as a big-league starter, Fried has a 3.27 ERA and 34 strikeouts, but his 1.55 WHIP across those outings illustrates the risk in the profile.

Fried (finger) tossed 6.2 scoreless innings and struck out 10 in his rehab start Monday for Double-A Mississippi. He gave up just one hit and one walk during the outing.
EDGE Analysis
Fried had been expected to come off the 10-day disabled list to start Tuesday's game against the Marlins, but the Braves felt the young lefty could benefit from a second rehab appearance before rejoining the big club. The lefty didn't seem to be affected by the blister on his left middle finger that previously resulted in his shutdown before the All-Star break, as he induced plenty of swings and misses and weak contact during the Double-A start while tossing 61 of 86 pitches for strikes. He'll likely re-enter the Atlanta rotation over the weekend against the Dodgers or when a fifth starter is first needed July 30 versus the Marlins.

Fried (finger) will make a rehab start Monday for Double-A Mississippi, David O'Brien of The Athletic Atlanta reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fried was considered a candidate to return to Atlanta and start Tuesday against the Marlins, but he'll make one more rehab start instead. He would now be lined up to start Saturday against the Dodgers, though the Braves' plans for him are not yet clear.

Manager Brian Snitker indicated he is leaning toward Fried (finger) starting Tuesday's game against the Marlins, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fried had a minor-league rehab appearance Wednesday and had zero blister issues, essentially clearing him for a return from the disabled list. Luiz Gohara -- another option to start Tuesday -- is currently having velocity issues which give Fried the upper hand for major-league starts. The 24-year-old has a 3.92 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over 20.2 innings for the Braves this season, although his previous start against the Brewers -- in which he allowed four runs prior to leaving with the blister -- inflate those numbers a bit.
