Boyd (12-8) took the loss against Washington on Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out three batters over seven innings.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd gave up a run in the first and another in the fourth, with the latter tally coming on a Daylen Lile homer. That was enough to send him to the loss, as Chicago's offense managed just one run in the contest. Despite the defeat, this was Boyd's best outing in several weeks -- prior to Saturday, he had given up at least four runs in three straight starts. Boyd will carry a strong 2.92 season ERA into his next start, which is projected to take place at home against Tampa Bay next week.

Boyd didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Colorado, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk with five strikeouts across six innings.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd surrendered at least four runs for a third consecutive start, though he didn't allow a home run and walked fewer than three batters -- both things he wasn't able to do in the first two outings of that stretch. The left-hander has taken three losses in his last five starts, posting a 5.65 ERA and a 24:8 K:BB across 28.2 innings. He's tentatively scheduled to face the Nationals his next time out.

Boyd (12-7) allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out eight over 5.1 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd's spotty performances continued Tuesday, as he's now given up four or more runs in three of his last six starts. He also allowed multiple home runs in this outing, doing so for the first time since May 17 versus the White Sox. Boyd is now at a 2.82 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 137:36 K:BB through 153.1 innings over 26 starts. The southpaw hasn't had a workload this heavy since 2019, so it's possible he's wearing down a bit late in the campaign. He'll try to get back on track in his next start, which is projected to be in Colorado this weekend.

Boyd (12-6) picked up the win in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Brewers, giving up four runs on six hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran southpaw wasn't at his sharpest, tossing 60 of 90 pitches for strikes, but he got enough run support to record his first win since July 22. Boyd has lasted at least five innings in 15 straight trips to the mound dating back to May 28, posting a 2.13 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 73:18 K:BB over 92.2 innings during that stretch, and Tuesday's outing was only the second time in that period he allowed more than three runs. Boyd will look to return to his stingy ways in his next start, which lines up to come on the road early next week in San Francisco.

Boyd (11-6) took the loss in Thursday's 2-1 defeat to the Blue Jays, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd was dominant for most of the outing, allowing just one hit while blanking Toronto through his first six innings. However, the left-hander would walk Davis Schneider to lead off the seventh before Vladimir Guerrero launched a two-run homer, which proved to be enough to stick Boyd with the loss in a one-run defeat. The 34-year-old Boyd has dropped three of his last four outings despite posting a respectable 3.75 ERA in that span. Overall, his ERA sits at 2.46 with a 1.02 WHIP and 126:30 K:BB across 24 starts (142.2 innings) this season.

Boyd (11-5) took the loss Friday, giving up three runs on seven hits over five innings as the Cubs fell 5-0 to the Cardinals. He struck out three without walking a batter.
EDGE Analysis
Hits came in bunches against the veteran southpaw, resulting in a one-run second inning and a two-run fifth for St. Louis, and a lack of run support left Boyd with no margin for error. He's gone three straight outings without getting into the win column since having a five-start win streak snapped, but he's remained tough to square up -- Boyd's served up only one home run over those last eight trips to the mound, a stretch in which he's posted a 1.80 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 42:8 K:BB in 50 innings. He'll face a tough test in his next start, which lines up to come on the road next week in Toronto.

Boyd came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Orioles, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out eight without walking a batter.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran lefty was absolutely dominant, racking up 37 called or swinging strikes over 92 pitches (68 total strikes), and the only runner Baltimore got into scoring position off Boyd came when Adley Rutschman doubled with two outs in the fourth inning. The Cubs' bullpen couldn't make a 3-0 lead hold up however, coughing up four runs in the eighth as soon as Boyd left the mound. He's held the opposition off the scoreboard in five of his last seven outings, posting a dazzling 1.40 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 39:8 K:BB over 45 innings during that stretch, and he'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend in St. Louis.

Boyd (11-4) took the loss Monday against the Brewers, allowing five runs on six hits and five walks in five innings. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
The All-Star southpaw wasn't at his best Monday, establishing a season high in both runs and walks allowed. The two strikeouts represented his second-lowest total in a start this year, but Boyd was at least able to toss at least five frames in his 11th straight outing and 20th appearance of the campaign. Boyd has a 2.47 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 110:29 K:BB across 123.2 innings in 2025, and he'll aim to right the ship his next time out at home versus the Orioles this weekend.

Boyd (11-3) earned the win Tuesday, allowing four hits and one walk over seven scoreless innings against the Royals. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd continued his stellar 2025 campaign Tuesday, tossing seven scoreless innings to notch his 11th win of the year and fourth in a row. The southpaw entered the outing with a 0.90 ERA and 0.70 WHIP over 20 innings in July, a stretch that included two shutouts. With a third shutout added to his July resume, Boyd lowered his season marks to a 2.20 ERA and 1.01 WHIP across 118.2 innings and 20 starts. While Paul Skenes and Zack Wheeler headline the National League's top arms, Boyd's dominance this season has put him firmly in that conversation.

While Boyd has pitched more MLB innings already in 2025 than he did the last two seasons combined, he appears to be in "good shape" heading into the second half, Zack Meisel and Patrick Mooney of The Athletic report.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd had an excellent first half of the season for his new organization, registering a 2.34 ERA and 102 strikeouts across 111.2 innings, which earned him an All-Star selection. The veteran lefty has dealt with a variety of injuries the past few years, and he only managed to log 110.2 major-league innings in 2023 and 2024 combined. While Boyd won't pitch in the All-Star Game to preserve his arm for the second half, the club feels good about how he's responded to the increased workload. "Everything we're looking at with Matt is in really good shape," Chicago manager Craig Counsell said. "There's no signs right now of him slowing down. He's getting better." Boyd may have some minor limitations after the break, but he appears to be in a good position to keep helping fantasy managers.
