Matthew Boyd Shelled By Cleveland rotoballer.com Mon 6/25/18 6:50 AM
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd was annihilated by the Cleveland offense on Sunday, allowing six runs in just three innings of work. Things really got out of hand when Artie Lewicki couldn't do any better, allowing six more runs in 4 1/3 innings. Boyd's rough outing pushes his season ERA up to 4.15. After an excellent April and solid May, Boyd has fallen flat since the calendar turned to June, posting a 6.75 ERA for the month. He's not worth much in most formats for the time being[...]

Welcome to our surprising starts series. Every week we'll be going over a few surprising starting pitcher performances around the majors to determine whether these starts were smoke and mirrors or something more.
This week we saw Jack Flaherty strike out the world with his slider on Sunday. We also saw two Tigers' lefties continue to outperform their peripherals.
Flaherty leads the trio, and he has been on the radar since a nine strikeout performance on April 3rd. Matthew Boyd has been doi[...]
Matthew Boyd Tallies Nine Strikeouts in Comeback Win Over Mariners rotoballer.com Fri 5/18/18 9:34 AM
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd had himself a solid start on Thursday against the 24-19 Mariners. Boyd threw for six innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out nine and walking just one. The Tigers rallied to win the game late, meaning Boyd had to settle for the no-decision despite the strong start. The nine strikeouts marked a season high for him, and he'll take a 3.19 ERA and 1.06 [...]
Matthew Boyd Looking To Continue Dominating At Home rotoballer.com Fri 5/11/18 6:42 AM
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd will take the bump Friday as the Tigers face off against the Mariners at Comerica Park. There is only one current Mariner who has ever faced Boyd, and only for one at bat, so there's not exactly a lot of data to draw on for this matchup. But one thing in Boyd's favor will be his numbers in his home ballpark. On the year, Boyd has a 1.47 ERA across three starts in Detroit and has struck out 14 batters in 18 1/3 innings of work. He'll look to keep that [...]
Matthew Boyd Turns In Another Quality Start rotoballer.com Wed 5/2/18 4:09 AM
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd bounced back on Tuesday following a shellacking by the Pirates his last time out. Boyd fired six innings of one-run ball against Tampa Bay, scattering seven hits and striking out seven in the process. Even with his Pittsburgh meltdown in the mix in which he allowed four earned runs in 3 2/3 innings, Boyd's season ERA sits at a stingy 2.48. He has quality starts in four of his five games, and has allowed just one earned run in each of them. Despite a s[...]
Matthew Boyd Roughed Up By Pirates rotoballer.com Thu 4/26/18 5:04 AM
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd couldn't escape the third inning on Wednesday, turning in his worst outing of the young season. Boyd had entered Wednesday's game with three consecutive starts in which he went at least six innings and allowed no more than one run, so this performance against a sputtering Pittsburgh offense comes as a surprise. All told, he allowed 10 base runners and four runs in 3 2/3 innings of work, raising his season ERA to 2.74. He'll look to bounce back [...]
Matthew Boyd Draws A Favorable Matchup For Wednesday rotoballer.com Wed 4/25/18 6:42 AM
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd will toe the rubber Wednesday evening in the second game of a doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It looks to be a nice matchup for the young lefty, who has gotten off to an excellent start by throwing six or more innings of one-run ball in each of his three starts thus far. Add in the fact that Boyd is facing a Pittsburgh team with a combined .313 wOBA and it has all the makings of another quality outing. He should be started in all formats [...]
Matthew Boyd Has Favorable Matchup Wednesday rotoballer.com Tue 4/17/18 8:52 AM
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd had his last start postponed by rain, snow, and frigid temperatures over the weekend, but he'll be back in action Wednesday as Detroit takes on Baltimore. It looks to be a favorable matchup for the lefty, who is off to a hot start this season with a 1.38 ERA and 0.62 WHIP through 13 innings of work. Baltimore has managed just a .283 wOBA on the year and ranks 23rd in runs scored this season.
Matthew Boyd Skipped, Francisco Liriano Postponed rotoballer.com Sun 4/15/18 11:57 AM
The Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees were supposed to play a doubleheader Sunday, but Mother Nature had different plans. After initially cancelling just the top half of the twin-bill, both games have now been cancelled. Matthew Boyd, who was scheduled to start game one, is being skipped in the rotation. Francisco Liriano, who was scheduled to start game two, will take the ball on Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles. Liriano is 1-1 on the year with a 2.13 ERA.
