Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd outdueled the combination of Lance Lynn and Sonny Gray on Sunday, tossing six innings while allowing five hits and three earned runs as part of an 11-7 Tigers victory. He also struck out six and walked just one, throwing 64 of his 98 pitches for strikes. Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd tossed six innings against the Royals on Tuesday, and five of those innings were pretty darn good. The problem for Boyd was the one bad inning, a five-run frame in the third inning. Boyd allowed a single and a walk through the first two innings before the outburst, and after that five-run frame managed to retire 11 of the next 13 batters to finish out six innings. BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 27% of leagues ANALYSIS: Since his last start on July, Matt Boyd has been in a nice rhythm for the Tigers to the tune of a 2.56 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and 7.7 K/9 over his last five starts. He got off to an excellent start to the season through the first two months, but limped through June with a 6.32 ERA and 1.47 WHIP after allowing six HR and 42.7% hard contact on batted balls.
