The Blue Jays placed Shoemaker on the 10-day injured list Sunday with right shoulder inflammation.
EDGE Analysis
Toronto recalled reliever Jacob Waguespack from the taxi squad in a corresponding move, but the Blue Jays will need to add a new pitcher to the rotation as a replacement for Shoemaker when his next turn comes up Wednesday versus the Red Sox. Shoemaker's move to the IL comes as a surprise, as the Blue Jays provided no indication that he was dealing with any sort of physical issue coming out of a strong outing in Friday's win over the Rays, during which he gave up two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out six in five innings. The fact that the Blue Jays are labeling Shoemaker's shoulder injury as inflammation rather than a strain offers hope that he'll be able to return from the IL in close to the minimum amount of time.

Shoemaker allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out six over five innings in Friday's win against the Rays. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Shoemaker was ejected during his last turn through the rotation, but he came back with one of his best performances since his season debut. He got solid run support from the Blue Jays via a four-run rally in the second inning and was in line for the win when he left the game. However, the bullpen quickly gave up the lead once he exited, forcing the right-hander to settle for yet another no-decision. Shoemaker now carries a 4.91 ERA and 1.01 WHIP over 25.2 innings to begin the season. He'll attempt to pick up his first win at home Thursday against the Red Sox.

Shoemaker was ejected from Sunday's game due to a minor verbal interaction with the umpire, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
It wasn't immediately clear why Shoemaker was thrown out of Sunday's contest, but he revealed after the game that he exchanged words with the umpire that resulted in the ejection. Given the relatively tepid reasoning behind his removal from the game, it's unlikely that he'll face further discipline. The right-hander's next start should come on the road Friday against the Rays.

Shoemaker was ejected from Sunday's game against the Rays in the middle of the fourth inning.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear exactly why the right-hander was ejected, but he was thrown out along with manager Charlie Montoyo after he got done pitching in the top of the fourth inning. Shoemaker allowed three runs on three hits and one walk while striking out seven over four innings prior to the ejection. Whether Shoemaker will face additional discipline remains to be seen.

Shoemaker allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and no walks while striking out six across six innings against the Red Sox. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Shoemaker allowed two solo home runs, one to Mitch Moreland and the other to Rafael Devers. However, the only other hit he allowed was a single to Jackie Bradley. Shoemaker has an inflated 4.86 ERA after getting hit hard in his second outing, though he has recorded quality starts in his other two efforts. He currently lines up to take his next turn in the rotation Sunday against Tampa Bay.

Shoemaker (0-1) took the loss Tuesday, surrendering six runs on six hits -- including three home runs -- and three walks over 4.2 innings in a 10-1 rout by Atlanta. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander wasn't sharp and has trouble locating his pitches, exiting after tossing 56 of 88 offerings for strikes, but the long layoff may be to blame -- Shoemaker last pitched July 25 as a result of the postponements in the Jays' schedule. He'll try to get back on track in his next outing, set for Sunday in Boston.

Shoemaker is expected to be on the mound when the Blue Jays head to Atlanta on Tuesday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shoemaker had been lined up to start Saturday against the Phillies, though the entirety of that weekend series was postponed due to fears that the Phillies had been caught up in the Marlins' coronavirus outbreak. He'll wind up starting on nine days' rest and will look to build on a strong season debut in which he held the Rays to just one run on three hits over six innings.

Shoemaker's scheduled start vs. the Phillies on Saturday has been postponed, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Phillies announced that a pair of staff members tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the week, prompting the team to shut down its stadium and postpone this weekend's series against the Blue Jays. It remains to be seen when Shoemaker will get the ball next.

Shoemaker did not factor into the decision against Tampa Bay on Saturday. He completed six innings and allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out four.
EDGE Analysis
Shoemaker breezed through five innings before allowing a walk and a double to the first two batters in the sixth to yield the game's first run. He recovered by registering a strikeout and two groundouts to limit the damage before his night was done. Shoemaker has thrived since joining the Blue Jays, going 3-0 with a 1.57 ERA and 0.87 WHIP in five starts last season before a torn ACL ended his campaign. Though his first start of 2020 was a success, it would probably be wise for fantasy managers to look for a greater sample size before rushing to add him. Shoemaker's next outing will come Friday at home against Philadelphia.

Manager Charlie Montoyo said Monday that Shoemaker will start the Blue Jays' second game of the regular season, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shoemaker was able to stay in shape while the season was suspended and appeared to be in full form during camp. As a result, he'll get the nod to start in Saturday's game in Tampa after Hyun-jin Ryu takes the mound for the season opener. Given Shoemaker's body of work ahead of the season, he shouldn't have any pitch count limitations to begin the year. The 32-year-old posted a 1.57 ERA and 0.87 WHIP over 28.2 innings across five starts in 2019 before he suffered a torn ACL in April that forced him to miss the remainder of the season.
