Duffy signed a contract with the Chiba Lotte Marines of the Nippon Professional Baseball League, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
EDGE Analysis
Duffy used to be a top prospect in the Astros system and even won the Pacific Coast League MVP award in 2015, but a sluggish 2016 campaign got him DFA'd by two different teams. To try to build up more future interest, the 27-year-old will head to Japan for the year, although it's unclear how long he intends to stay overseas.

Duffy was outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
After officially clearing waivers Saturday, the recently DFA'd Duffy will join the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate rather than test the waters in free agency. The former Pacific Coast League MVP has struggled to regain his form this season, registering a .226/.303/.350 slash line while with the Astros' Triple-A affiliate earlier in the season.

Duffy was designated for assignment Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
He was just optioned to Triple-A Round Rock last week but will now be DFA'd to make room on the 40-man roster after the Braves acquired a pair of pitchers from Atlanta on Wednesday. A team could claim Duffy via waivers, for the second time this month, otherwise he'll simply report to Round Rock.

Duffy was claimed off waivers by the Rangers on Saturday and optioned to Triple-A Round Rock, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
A .226/.303/.350 showing in 74 games with Triple-A Fresno led to Duffy's designation for assignment by the Astros, but the Rangers have deemed the 27-year-old worthy of a spot on their 40-man roster. Duffy hit .294/.336/.484 with 20 homers with Fresno last season and he's shown this year that he can help out all around the diamond, playing first base, third, left field and even shortstop (for the first time as a professional).

Duffy was designated for assignment Saturday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The move was made in order to make room for recently acquired Cuban infielder, Yulieski Gurriel, on the 40-man roster. Duffy will now be available to be picked up by another big league club during his waiver period. The 27-year-old has spent the majority of the 2016 season with Triple-A Fresno where he's accumulates a .226/.303/.350 slash line over 74 games.

Duffy was sent to Triple-A Fresno on Monday to clear room for Evan Gattis (sports hernia) on the roster, Jake Kaplan of The Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Duffy went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts during his short stay in the majors after hitting three home runs in spring training to make the roster. He had a breakout season in Triple-A Fresno last year and remains an interesting prospect for a call-up later in the summer.

Manager AJ Hinch announced Thursday that Duffy made the Opening Day roster..
EDGE Analysis
Duffy was expected to make the roster if the Astros chose to carry 12 pitchers, and it appears that will be the case. The 27-year-old broke out last season at Triple-A on his way to becoming the Pacific Coast League MVP, and he'll ride that momentum into the 2016 season as he slots in as a backup to third baseman Luis Valbuena and an option at first base along with Tyler White.

Duffy should make the Astros' Opening Day roster if they choose to carry 12 pitchers, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
It was reported earlier in camp that the team's preference is to carry 12 pitchers to open 2016, so Duffy's chances of making the roster look favorable, especially with Jonathan Singleton and A.J. Reed opening the year in Triple-A. After a hot start to camp, the 27-year-old third baseman has cooled a bit, hitting just .182 over 44 Grapefruit League at-bats, albeit with three home runs.

Duffy homered twice and drove in three Sunday during Houston's Grapefruit League win over Pittsburgh.
EDGE Analysis
He also drew a walk in the game, but the 27-year-old third baseman continued his early spring power surge to bring his total to three, which ties him for the lead in the category among all spring qualifiers. Duffy's name shouldn't be discounted when discussing possible candidates to make the Astros' Opening Day roster, as the reigning Pacific Coast League MVP hit .294/.366/.484 with 20 home runs and 104 RBI over 127 games for Triple-A Fresno last season.
