The Cardinals are hopeful Carpenter (foot) will be ready to begin a minor-league rehab assignment next week, the Associated Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
St. Louis probably won't map out a rehab schedule for Carpenter until he ramps up his baseball activities, but the report at least offers optimism that his latest stay on the injured list will likely be a brief one. As was the case during Carpenter's first IL stint earlier this month, rookie Tommy Edman will continue to serve as the Cardinals' primary third baseman while the veteran is on the shelf.

Carpenter was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right foot contusion Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Carpenter left Monday's game in the middle of an at-bat after fouling a ball off his foot, and the issue is evidently serious enough to sideline him for at least 10 days. Edmundo Sosa was called up in a corresponding move and will likely fill a bench role, with Tommy Edman taking over at third base.

Carpenter (foot) isn't starting Tuesday against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Carpenter exited Monday night's series opener after fouling a ball off his own foot, and the issue is evidently still bothering him. The extent of the injury is not yet known, however. Tommy Edman will start at the hot corner and lead off in Carpenter's absence.

Carpenter left Monday's game against the Pirates in the seventh inning after fouling a ball off his foot, Rob Rains of StLSportsPage.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carpenter was unable to complete the at-bat, so Tommy Edman was forced to enter the game and inherit the veteran third baseman's count. The extent of the injury is not yet known.

Carpenter, who was reinstated from the injured list last Thursday, is 2-for-9 with six strikeouts in the first two games following the All-Star break.
EDGE Analysis
The nightmarish season continues for Carpenter, whose 25.7 percent strikeout rate is the highest of his major-league career. When factoring out his initial seven-game cup of coffee with the Cardinals back in 2011, all three components of Carpenter's current .216/.322/.376 line qualify as career worsts. Moreover, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that manager Mike Shildt will continue to rotate other hitters into the leadoff spot that Carpenter often occupies (including Saturday), a spot where he's slashing only .208/.318/.365 over 299 plate appearances.

Carpenter (back) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Carpenter has been on the shelf since July 2 due to a lower-back strain, though he benefitted from the All-Star break and will be ready to roll when his team resumes play Friday against Arizona. He put together an uncharacteristic .216/.325/.381 slash line through 77 games in the first half, so he'll look to turn things around following the break.

Carpenter (back) resumed baseball activities Saturday in St. Louis, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carpenter's regimen Saturday included hitting, and manager Mike Shildt relayed that he received a positive update overall from his veteran infielder following the session. Carpenter had previously stated he expected to be ready to return to action when first eligible July 12, the Cardinals' first game following the All-Star break.

Carpenter (back) expects to return from the injured list after the All-Star break July 12, Mark Saxon of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carpenter was bedridden for 40 hours over the weekend due to a stomach issue and then ended up tweaking his back. The back strain doesn't appear overly serious, but the Cardinals decided to play things safe and take advantage of the All-Star break to aid in his recovery. Tommy Edman and Yairo Munoz figure to fill in at third base during his absence.

Carpenter was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a lower-back strain, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
After Carpenter missed his fourth consecutive start Sunday, manager Mike Shildt said the third baseman was dealing with a stomach issue. It turns out it's something more serious, and it will knock Carpenter out at least through the break. The 33-year-old rebounded after a slow start last year but hasn't been able to do that yet in 2019 -- he's batting .216/.325/.381 halfway through the season. Expect Tommy Edman to get a good amount of run in Carpenter's absence.

Carpenter (illness) isn't starting Tuesday's game against the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Carpenter is in line to miss his fifth consecutive matchup, and it was revealed Sunday that he's been battling a stomach bug. He'll continue to be considered day-to-day until further notice. Yairo Munoz will lead off and start at the hot corner in Carpenter's absence.
