Buschmann, who signed with the Jays in early March, will begin the 2017 season at Triple-A Buffalo, Jays Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Missouri native was a standout at Vanderbilt from 2003 through 2006. While in college, Buschmann went 20-9 with a 3.49 ERA before being drafted by the Padres in the 15th round of the 2006 draft. Since then, the right-hander has appeared in 307 minor league games for a bevy of organizations while managing a 4.20 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. Impressively, he's had 1189 strikeouts, the most among active pictures within the minor leagues. Barring a series of injuries to Jays relievers, it's highly unlikely Buschmann will make an impact at the major-league level this year.

EDGE Analysis
Buschmann was sent down with Jake Barrett. They both threw multiple innings on Saturday, and won't be available for the next few days. Both could be recalled to the Diamondbacks later this season, but for now Buschmann and Barrett will be replaced by the fresh arms of Archie Bradley and Evan Marshall.

Buschmann used his opt-out clause to leave the Rays organization and declare free agency, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Buschmann was solid at Triple-A Durham with a 3.89 ERA and 1.246 WHIP in 13 innings, but likely realized his opportunities with Tampa Bay were limited. The Rays have seen the majority of their ideal rotation go down with injuries, but opted to go with minor league pitchers other than Buschmann. The 31-year-old will probably look for a team that could give him a shot at the majors

Buschmann was traded from the Athletics to the Rays for cash considerations Thursday, Mike Vernon of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Buschmann spent most of 2013 in Triple-A, but hasn't been able to crack a major league roster in his career to this point. There's no indication that a move to the Rays in 2015 will result in that outcome either.
