The Royals acquired Black from the Giants on Tuesday in exchange for Logan Martin.
EDGE Analysis
Black had been designated for assignment by the Giants last week and will now join the Royals' 40-man roster. The 25-year-old spent most of this season at Triple-A Sacramento, where he held a 5.81 ERA and 1.48 WHIP alongside a 114:62 K:BB over 119.1 innings. Black has been used mostly as a starting pitcher to this point in his pro career, though it's not known whether the Royals intend to keep him in that role. The righty has minor-league options remaining.

The Giants designated Black for assignment Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Black spent the vast majority of the 2025 campaign at Triple-A Sacramento, where he struggled to the tune of a 5.81 ERA and 1.48 WHIP alongside a 114:62 K:BB over 119.1 innings. His poor performance will now cause him to lose his place on San Francisco's 40-man roster in favor of Reiver Sanmartin, who was claimed off waivers from the Reds in a corresponding move.

The Giants optioned Black to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Black ran into some struggles on the mound during his season debut Friday, giving up five runs (three earned) while striking out five batters in four innings out of the bullpen. He'll now return to the minor leagues in favor of Tristan Beck, who will provide the Giants with an additional fresh bullpen arm.

Black threw four relief innings in Friday's 11-2 loss to the Athletics, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits -- including two home runs -- while striking out five.
EDGE Analysis
Black made his season debut after being recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. The right-hander entered the game in the fourth and allowed just one hit through his first two innings. However, things unraveled for the 25-year-old in the next two frames, as the Athletics extended their lead to 11-0 by the end of the seventh. Before joining the big-league club, Black made 14 starts in 15 appearances for Sacramento, posting a 4.75 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 70:42 K:BB across 72 innings.

The Giants recalled Black from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Black has been in Triple-A all season and owns a 4.75 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP across 72 innings. He's worked almost exclusively as a starter throughout his professional career, but he'll likely be used in long relief while in San Francisco, replacing Carson Seymour in the bullpen.

The Giants optioned Black to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Black coughed up five runs on five hits and three walks over his 3.1 innings of work this spring. The right-hander should be part of Sacramento's rotation to open the 2025 season and could help the Giants later on as either a starter or reliever.

The Giants optioned Black to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Black was saddled with his fifth loss of the season Wednesday versus Arizona, allowing four earned runs on five hits and five walks across just 2.2 innings. Now that his spot in the rotation won't be needed for the rest of the season, the Giants will send him back to the minors and insert Randy Rodriguez (elbow) back into their bullpen.

Black (1-5) took the loss against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, allowing four runs on five hits and five walks over 2.2 innings while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
Black had a miserable second inning, allowing back-to-back hits to open the frame and failing to retire five of the first six batters he faced while seeing three runs come across for Arizona. The right-hander continued to struggle in the third, allowing three walks and an infield single before eventually being relieved by Sean Hjelle with two outs. Black's five walks on the night marked a season high and he's now lost four of his last five starts. It also tied for his shortest outing of the campaign after hurling a season-high 5.2 innings in his previous start against the Royals.

Black (1-4) earned the win Friday at Kansas City, pitching 5.2 scoreless frames while allowing four hits and one walk. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie right-hander turned in the best performance of his young career with this 84-pitch outing -- his first scoreless start. Black had been on a cold spell before this contest, pitching to a 5.27 ERA across 13.2 innings since re-entering the rotation Aug. 31. The 24-year-old managed to lower his season ERA from 7.07 to 5.88, as he now sports a 1.51 WHIP and 28:10 K:BB over 33.2 innings. Black is tentatively scheduled to make his last start against the Cardinals at home next week.

Black (0-4) took the loss against the Padres on Saturday, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk over four innings while striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
The Padres got to Black early, tagging the right-hander for one run in the opening frame following a double from Manny Machado, though the run was unearned on account of a fielding error by Heliot Ramos. The 24-year-old would then get through the next two innings unscathed before surrendering a solo homer to Xander Bogaerts in the fourth. It marked the sixth time in seven outings this season that Black was unable to get through five innings, though it was also the second time over that span that he allowed only one earned run. Additionally, he's given up at least one home run in all seven of his outings and is still looking for his first win on the campaign.
