Cardinals optioned 1B Mark Hamilton to Triple-A Memphis. Hamilton saw an occasional start at first base while Albert Pujols was sidelined with a fractured wrist but was no longer needed now that the Cardinals' core is back to full health. The 26-year-old could be recalled later this summer.

Cardinals recalled 1B Mark Hamilton from Triple-A Memphis. Hamilton should get a decent amount of looks at first base over the next month-plus as Albert Pujols recovers from a left forearm fracture. The 26-year-old has posted quality numbers at the Triple-A level this season but is unlikely to carry much in the way of mixed league fantasy value.

The Cardinals will recall first baseman Mark Hamilton before Tuesday's game against the Phillies. St. Louis is likely to play Lance Berkman at first base and Jon Jay in right field in most matchups, but Hamilton could also see time with Albert Pujols out a month-plus due to a fractured forearm. Hamilton, 26, has posted a .385/.504/.538 batting line in 27 games at the Triple-A level this season. He has five hits in 42 major league plate appearances.
