Stroman (hip) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Stroman landed on the injured list last week, and he will not have to wait long to get back on the bump. Manager David Ross is hoping that Stroman will be ready to return from the injured list when first eligible Aug. 16, and a successful session Tuesday would go a long way toward reaching that goal.

Cubs manager David Ross said Wednesday that he expects Stroman (hip) will be ready to return from 15-day injured list around when he's first eligible for activation Aug. 16, ESPN.com reports. "He's still only going to miss one start with the off days we have, and he'll be able to work on some stuff with the time he's going to have down, so I thought it was an optimal time [for Stroman to go on the IL]," Ross said.
EDGE Analysis
Stroman was placed on the IL on Wednesday due to right hip inflammation, an injury the right-hander said has been affecting his mechanics of late. The hip issue would help explain his stark decline in performance over his last seven outings, as Stroman has turned in just one quality start during that stretch while going 1-4 with a 9.00 ERA and 1.93 WHIP over 30 frames. Stroman's move to the IL opened up a spot on the 26-man active roster for reliever Jose Cuas, whom the Cubs acquired Monday in a trade with the Royals.

The Cubs placed Stroman on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right hip inflammation, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
The transaction is retroactive to Tuesday, so the earliest date Stroman will be eligible for activation is Aug. 16. Stroman wasn't known to be dealing with an injury coming out of his most recent start Monday, but he'll be deactivated after enduring a rough stretch over the past month. In his last seven starts, Stroman has gone 1-4 with a 9.00 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 28:16 K:BB in 30 innings, taking some luster off of what had been his second All-Star campaign. Hayden Wesneski could be the Cubs' top choice to replace Stroman in the rotation.

Stroman (10-8) took the loss against Cincinnati on Monday, allowing six runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two batters over three innings.
EDGE Analysis
Stroman got through a scoreless first frame Monday before giving up three runs in each of the second and third innings. He wasn't allowed to go back out for the fourth, ending with his second-shortest start of the campaign. Stroman picked up a win and a quality start in his first outing following the All-Star break, but he's imploded since, allowing 17 earned runs over 10 frames while recording a 10:8 K:BB in his past three appearances. The veteran looked like he could be in the NL Cy Young conversation after posting a 9-4 record with a 2.28 ERA across his first 16 starts of the campaign, but he's well out of earshot for that award now that his ERA has climbed all the way up to 3.85.

Stroman allowed seven runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out four over 3.1 innings in a no-decision versus the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Stroman didn't pitch well, but Lance Lynn was just about equally poor for the Pale Hose. After an excellent first three months of the campaign, Stroman has struggled over his last six starts, allowing 28 runs (24 earned) over 27 innings with just one quality start in that span. The poor stretch has inflated his ERA from 2.28 to 3.51 and his WHIP from 1.02 to 1.20. He's added a 10-7 record and a 109:48 K:BB over 125.2 innings through 22 starts overall. He's tentatively lined up for a challenging two-start week next week, with potential matchups versus Cincinnati and Atlanta on the slate, assuming the Cubs hold onto Stroman through the trade deadline.

Stroman (10-7) took the loss against St. Louis on Thursday, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and four walks while striking out four batters over 3.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Stroman has been one of the National League's top starters this season, but he didn't have his best stuff against the Cardinals. The right-hander threw just 56 of 99 pitches for a strike and tied a season high with four walks, notching fewer than four innings for the third time on the campaign. Stroman allowed only one run over six innings in his previous outing, but he's been struggling overall since the end of June, posting a 6.46 ERA and 1.65 WHIP with a 22:12 K:BB across 23.2 innings over his past five starts. Stroman's season ERA of 3.09 is still very solid, but it's reasonable to be concerned about his recent downturn.

Stroman (10-6) earned the win Saturday, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over six innings against the Red Sox. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Stroman was cruising through Boston's lineup Saturday before surrendering a leadoff double to Justin Turner in the top of the fourth, which would eventually lead to one run coming across for the Red Sox. The right-hander would then go 1-2-3 over the next two innings to log his major league-leading 15th quality start. Stroman had allowed at least three runs in each of his last three starts coming in and now holds a 5.40 ERA in July after Saturday's performance. His ERA of 2.88 on the season currently ranks fifth in the National League.

Stroman said he will not pitch in Tuesday's All-Star Game, electing instead to rest up for the second half, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Stroman made the announcement after his final start before the break Thursday, in which he allowed four runs over five innings and settled for a no-decision against the Brewers. "I'm definitely looking forward to having a little bit of a break," he said. "Kind of just reset my energy, clear my mind and have a good second half." Stroman has been solid so far with a 2.96 ERA across 112.2 innings. However, the righty only logged 138.2 innings last year as he dealt with a shoulder issue, so the extended absence makes sense as he aims to blow past that mark in 2023.

Stroman (9-6) took the loss against Cleveland on Saturday, allowing five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over 5.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Stroman exited his previous start after 3.1 innings due to a finger blister, but he had recovered enough by Saturday to take his turn in the rotation. The right-hander struck out four of the first six batters he faced and finished with seven punchouts, but the Guardians got to him for three singles in the sixth frame, with all three of those batters coming around to score (two after he departed). Stroman has given up 11 runs (eight earned) over his past nine innings across two starts, increasing his season ERA from 2.28 to 2.76.

Stroman (finger) will start Saturday versus the Guardians, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Stroman will be able to make his next start on regular rest after he exited his last outing Sunday versus the Cardinals with a blister on his right index finger. The 32-year-old saw his streak of seven straight quality starts get snapped against St. Louis, as he gave up six runs (three earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out two over 3.1 frames, so he'll look to get back on track against Cleveland. On the season, Stroman has been incredibly effective, posting a 2.47 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 85 punchouts over 102 innings in 17 starts, including a complete game shutout.
