Stroman reported to Yankees camp Friday and told reporters "I won't pitch out of the bullpen," Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
While Stroman did not report with other pitchers and catchers earlier this week, he technically didn't have to report until Feb. 22, per the terms of MLB's Collective Bargaining Agreement. As far as Stroman's role goes, while he insisted that "I'm a starter," there wouldn't currently appear to be any room for him in the Yankees' rotation. That can change, of course, with an injury or a trade. Stroman held a 4.31 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 154.2 regular-season innings in 2024, which covered 29 starts and one relief appearance.

Stroman has yet to report to spring training as of Thursday, and the Yankees haven't yet determined when he might be ready to participate in workouts, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
According to the terms of MLB's collective bargaining agreement, Stroman isn't required to take the field for spring training until Feb. 22, but his voluntary absence is noteworthy with all other pitchers and catchers having reported to camp. Stroman was still present in Tampa on Tuesday to take his pre-camp physical, and he's expected to continue working out on his own over the next few days before joining the Yankees. The 33-year-old's decision not to report to camp comes while his role entering the 2025 season is uncertain, after the Yankees signed Max Fried to an eight-year deal over the winter to give the team a projected five-man rotation that also includes Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Clarke Schmidt and Luis Gil. Unless the Yankees head into Opening Day with a six-man rotation or lose one of the other five pitchers to an injury, Stroman could find himself in the bullpen after he turned in a 4.31 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 154.2 regular-season innings during his first season with New York in 2024.

Stroman is on the Yankees' roster for the ALCS versus the Guardians.
EDGE Analysis
Stroman was left off the ALDS roster but will be carried on the ALCS roster as a long reliever. The veteran right-hander posted a 4.31 ERA and 113:60 K:BB over 154.2 innings during the regular season, covering 29 starts and one relief appearance.

Stroman is not on the Yankees' roster for the ALDS against Kansas City.
EDGE Analysis
Stroman struggled during the regular season, posting a 4.31 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 154.2 innings. He was briefly moved to the bullpen in mid-September but returned to a starting role for his final appearance of the campaign after Nester Cortes (elbow) landed on the injured list. The Yankees aren't likely to need more than four starters in the ALDS, and the team elected to roll with Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Luis Gil and Clarke Schmidt ahead of Stroman.

Stroman (10-9) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up six runs on 10 hits over 3.1 innings as the Yankees fell 9-7 to the Orioles. He struck out one without walking a batter.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander's contact-heavy approach betrayed him, as the O's began the game with six straight singles and grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning that they would never relinquish. Stroman is limping to the finish line on the regular season, posting a 6.59 ERA, 1.87 WHIP and 21:6 K:BB over his last six appearances and 27.1 innings, and he seems likely to get shifted to the bullpen in the playoffs.

Stroman will start Wednesday's game against the Orioles in place of Nestor Cortes (elbow), who was placed on the 15-day injured list.
EDGE Analysis
Stroman had been demoted to the bullpen earlier this month and picked up a three-inning save in his lone relief appearance Sept. 17 in Seattle. He's now needed back in the rotation, at least temporarily, with Cortes out through at least the ALDS. Stroman threw 64 pitches in the outing versus the Mariners and shouldn't have much of a workload restriction Wednesday given that his other 28 appearances this season were starts.

Stroman picked up his second career save in Tuesday's win over the Mariners, allowing one run on five hits while striking out three over three innings.
EDGE Analysis
Stroman made his first appearance out of the bullpen since the Yankees announced the move over the weekend and he picked up his first save since 2014, which was his rookie season. He gave up at least a hit in all three innings he pitched, including a solo home run to Luke Raley in the eighth, but the game was comfortably out of reach already. Stroman should continue to operate in a long-relief role down the stretch unless an opportunity opens up for him to be reinserted back into the rotation.

Stroman is moving to the bullpen and will be available in relief Sunday against the Red Sox, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Yankees will go with a five-man rotation this next turn through and manager Aaron Boone said they could go with a five-man rotation the next time through as well. Stroman figures to serve as a long reliever who could get a spot start in the final week if the Yankees are setting things up for the postseason.

Stroman (10-8) took the loss Tuesday, giving up three runs on seven hits and two walks over 5.1 innings as the Yankees fell 5-0 to the Royals. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander didn't pitch poorly, tossing 56 of 89 pitches for strikes, but Seth Lugo was dominant Tuesday and the Yankees managed only three singles in support of Stroman. He's completed six innings only twice in nine outings since the All-Star break, stumbling to a 5.40 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 31:13 K:BB through 43.1 innings over that stretch. Stroman will look for a better result in his next start, which lines up to come on the road early next week in Seattle.

Stroman (10-7) allowed five runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out three over 3.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Stroman had gone at least five innings in each of his previous four starts, but the Rangers got to him early Wednesday. This was the sixth start in a row in which Stroman didn't give up a home run, which is progress since he allowed eight long balls across the six starts before that. The veteran right-hander is now at a 4.03 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 105:58 K:BB over 143 innings through 27 starts. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Royals.
