A move down the order seems to have agreed with Semien thus far, and he's now hitting .359 (14-for-39) with three doubles, one triple and two RBI when deployed out of the eighth spot this season. That includes a 4-for-8 tally over the last two games, and given Nick Martini's continued success in the leadoff role, Semien;s opportunities to serve as a source of offense in the back end of the lineup could continue.

The shortstop is wrapping up July wielding a hot bat, as he's now generated four two-hit efforts over his last eight games, a span during which he's laced a quartet of two-baggers and driven in five of his eight runs for the month.

Semien went 1-for-6 with a double, two runs and three RBI in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.

Semien hit a two-run double in the seventh inning and then secured another RBI in the eighth on a force attempt. Semien is having a decent July, hitting .268 with seven doubles, seven RBI, 10 walks and 10 runs scored in 18 games. His power numbers are down from years prior but his 56 runs this season are tied for fifth among all MLB shortstops.

Semien went 0-for-2 with a bases-loaded walk and two other base-on-balls in an extra-inning win over the Giants on Saturday. He was also caught stealing on his only attempt.

EDGE Analysis

Semien was quite the nuisance to Giants pitching with his keen eye at the plate, including when he coaxed a free pass out of Madison Bumgarner with the bases jammed in the fifth. The shortstop is slashing a rather pedestrian .253/.310/.369 for the season, but he's been a constant presence on the bases in July. Semien has now reached safely in 10 consecutive games dating back to July 8, and he's sporting a .354 on-base percentage overall during his 66 plate appearances during the month.

Semien went 3-for-4 with a triple, two doubles and two RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Astros.

Semien slashed a triple -- his second of the year -- off Justin Verlander and later hit a two-run double in the ninth off Hector Rondon to tie the game at 4-4. Semien now has 18 doubles to go along with seven home runs and 33 RBI on the year. The 27-year-old's 49 runs are tied for seventh among MLB shortstops, and he's 7-for-11 in stolen base attempts.

Semien has now compiled four multi-hit efforts over his last seven games, although all nine hits have been singles. Nevertheless, it's a welcome stretch of offensive success for the shortstop, who saw his season average drop 19 points to .248 during June. A boost in power numbers would ideally be the next step in Semien's resurgence, as he hasn't tallied an extra-base hit since June 20.

Semien went 2-for-4 with a run in a loss to the Indians on Sunday while also getting picked off first base. He's now hitting .368 (7-for-19) with an RBI, a walk and three runs over the last five games.

EDGE Analysis

Semien's average has only gone up a modest six points overall to .251, but the more important aspect of his recent surge is that he may be rounding back into form after hitting just .182 over the first 21 games of June. The shortstop has actually coaxed his strikeout rate down to a career-low 19.5 percent this season, but he's also making hard contact at almost two percentage points lower than last season (28.8 percent, as compared to 2017's 30.3 percent). Coupled with a drop in flyball rate from 42.1 percent to 36.1 percent, Semien is producing only modest power numbers thus far (seven home runs over 375 plate appearances).

EDGE Analysis

Semien now has back-to-back multi-hit efforts for only the second time since May 19-22, and he's gone 5-for-11 with two RBI, a walk and two runs in his last three games overall. The 27-year-old shortstop has been able to avoid the injury bug this season after missing a chunk of time following wrist surgery in 2017, but he's slashing a rather lackluster .251/.305/.368 through 367 plate appearances.

Semien went 2-for-4 with a run in a win over the Tigers on Thursday.

EDGE Analysis

Offensive success has been relatively sparse for the shortstop recently, as even factoring in Thursday's production, he's hit just .198 in June. His tally against the Tigers represented only his fourth multi-hit effort of the month, but it did snap him out of a 2-for-24 slump that had encompassed his previous six games. There were hopes for a resurgent season for Semien after a wrist injury cost him significant time in 2017, but his .248/.302/.366 line through 364 plate appearances is actually slightly poorer overall than the .249/.325/.398 he slashed in 22 additional opportunities last season.

Semien is out of the starting lineup against the Tigers on Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Semien will receive a breather following 22 straight starts, including a 1-for-4 showing with one run scored during Oakland's comeback victory Tuesday. In his place, Franklin Barreto will start at shortstop and bat eighth.
