Machado and the Padres are finalizing an 11-year, $350 million extension Sunday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

The 30-year-old had six years and $180 million remaining on his previous contract (including the upcoming campaign) but recently confirmed plans to exercise his opt-out at the end of the 2023 season. Instead, he's reached a new deal with San Diego that should keep him around until 2034. Machado delivered his typical All-Star level of production last season with an .897 OPS, 32 home runs, 37 doubles, 102 RBI and 100 runs in 150 games, which earned him second place in voting for the National League MVP.

Machado went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during Saturday's 10-6 to the Phillies in Game 4 of the NLCS.

Machado has demonstrated an unbelievable ability to bounce back from poor showings. The last six times the star third baseman has gone hitless, he has followed up with a multi-hit performance.

Machado isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against San Francisco.

The 30-year-old slugger will get a day off after the Padres officially clinched a playoff spot Sunday. Brandon Drury will move to third base in his absence, moving Josh Bell into first base and opening up a chance for Brandon Dixon to start as San Diego's designated hitter, batting ninth.
