Astros sent RHP Kyle Weiland outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Weiland missed most of the 2012 season while recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder. He will compete for a rotation spot next spring if he shows up to camp healthy.

Kyle Weiland (shoulder) is doubtful to pitch this year. Weiland underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder in May and later needed treatment for an infection that developed around his surgical wound. "Given how much time he's missed, I'd be surprised if he made it back into the competition this year," said Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow. "Our focus is on just getting him healthy and getting him ready to recover in the offseason and come into spring training."

He surrendered a solo home run to James Loney in the second inning, and was tagged by Matt Kemp for a two-run blast in the sixth. Even with the improved effort, his ERA stands at 6.62 through his first 17 2/3 innings. He'll continue the search for his first win when he takes on the Reds in Cincinnati next week.

Kyle Weiland was lit up by the Nationals Monday, giving up six runs on 10 hits and four walks over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out just two and served up a homer to Wilson Ramos. Weiland now holds an 8.44 ERA and 2.25 WHIP through two starts, and it's possible his rotation spot could be in jeopardy if he doesn't right the ship soon. He'll try for better results against the Dodgers this weekend.
