Hendricks has been confirmed as the starter for Monday's series opener in Pittsburgh, the Daily Herald's Bruce Miles reports.

He was pushed back from pitching this weekend in an effort by the Cubs to line up the postseason rotation. Hendricks will now presumably get two starts next week, first against Pittsburgh on Monday and then next Saturday in Cincinnati.

Hendricks has continued to roll this month with a 1.80 ERA over three starts, and there is no indication he is dealing with an injury, so he is not seemingly being pushed back for performance or health reasons. Rather, with their playoff positioning all but secured, the Cubs are likely pushing Hendricks back to help set up their postseason rotation. Hendricks will not start during the Cubs' weekend series with the Cardinals, but if he takes the mound Monday, he would still be able to get in two starts before the regular season comes to a close.

Hendricks was effective in Sunday's start versus the Brewers, allowing just two runs on six hits across six innings. He struck out nine but was made to endure his eighth loss of the season.

Hendricks threw first-pitch strikes to 17 of 24 batters and induced 12 swinging strikes across six strong frames, but the offense could not pick him up versus Wily Peralta. Hendricks now has an astounding streak of nine straight starts in which he has gone at least six innings while allowing two or fewer runs, and he is the owner of a terrific 2.06 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP. He will look to extend his streak Saturday versus Cardinals.

Hendricks (15-7) allowed just one run on one hit and two walks with seven strikeouts over eight innings in Monday's win over the Cardinals.

EDGE Analysis

Hendricks has allowed two runs or fewer in nine straight outings and one run or fewer in each of his past four as he continues to make a shockingly strong case for the Cy Young award. His only weakness compared to other contenders is a relatively low 7.9 K/9, but he has mitigated his lack of strikeouts with loads of grounders (1.7 GB/FB). His 3.38 FIP is practically identical to last year's 3.36 mark, but Hendricks has saved his best for moments with runners on base this year, which has made all the difference.

Hendricks (14-7) continued his splendid season on Labor Day, earning the win by holding the Brewers to one run in six innings. He allowed five hits, walked two, and struck out six.

EDGE Analysis

Hendricks managed to lower his ERA to 2.07 for the season, while his WHIP dipped below 1.00 to 0.99. To put Hendricks' season in perspective, the 26-year-old hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in a start since May 17. His next start will be Sunday at Houston.

Hendricks (13-7) pitched seven scoreless innings, limiting the Pirates to just three hits while walking one and striking out four in Tuesday's win.

Hendricks sliced his MLB-best ERA to 2.09 with his sixth straight quality start Tuesday. The right-handed hurler is now 9-1 in his last 10 decisions dating back to June 19 and has seemingly surpassed the NL's reigning Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta as the Cubs most reliable pitcher since the All-Star break. Although his strikeout rate leaves something to be desired, Hendricks more than compensates for it with the NL's second-best WHIP of 0.98. The 26-year-old has been nothing short of a fantasy stud over the past couple months, and he'll look to continue dominating when he makes his next start Monday in Milwaukee.

Hendricks (12-7) pitched six innings, allowing two runs, four hits and two walks while striking out eight in Wednesday's win over the Padres.

EDGE Analysis

Hendricks has now allowed three runs or fewer in 17 consecutive starts, the longest such streak in the majors this season. Wednesday's win was his third in a row and extended his career-high victory total to 12. The 26-year-old has been phenomenal this season, owning MLB's best ERA at 2.19 through 24 starts and 152 innings. Hendricks finished August with 32 strikeouts over 35.1 innings to go along with his second career complete-game shutout. He'll look to keep things rolling Tuesday in his next start versus the Pirates -- a team he held to one run over six innings in a victory on June 19.

Hendricks didn't factor into the decision Saturday versus the Cardinals despite equaling a season high with 12 strikeouts and giving up just two earned runs on five hits over seven innings.

EDGE Analysis

The 26-year-old righty was masterful overall, notching a whopping 22 swinging strikes and not surrendering a walk for the second straight start. He stumbled twice overall, surrendering solo homers to Brandon Moss and Jedd Gyorko in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively. Hendricks now has three straight quality starts and has given up just three earned runs in the 23.1 innings over that span. He'll look to get back in the win column when he takes on the Rockies in Coors Field next Friday.

Hendricks (11-7) allowed one run on three hits while striking out four over 7.1 innings to earn the win Sunday at the Athletics.

EDGE Analysis

Hendricks was masterful while the offense gave him just enough support to help him earn his 11th decision of 2016. He's now held opponents to one or fewer earned runs in six of his last seven starts to lower his ERA to 2.17 on the year. He's now posted an ERA of 2.46 or lower in two of his three seasons with the Cubs. He'll make his next start Saturday against the Cardinals.

Hendricks (10-7) allowed seven hits and three walks and struck out five in a complete game shutout Monday over the Marlins.

EDGE Analysis

Hendricks used a season high 123 pitches (78 strikes) to pick up the shutout, in which he induced a sharp 11 swinging strikes and 11 groundouts. He has now held the opponent without an earned run in six of his past eight outings, an incredible run in which he has gone 5-1 and lowered his ERA from 2.94 to 2.22. He now owns the best ERA in the Cubs rotation, better than both Jake Arrieta's 2.75 and Jon Lester's 2.95.
