Finnegan notched a save in each game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Pirates, allowing one run on three hits and a walk in Game 1 and pitching a perfect frame with two strikeouts in Game 2.
EDGE Analysis
Finnegan struggled a bit in the matinee, allowing four of the first five batters he faced to reach base to allow a run to cross the plate and load the bases with one out. He was able to escape the jam, however, by getting Bryan De La Cruz to ground into a game-ending double play. Finnegan tossed 23 pitches in that outing, but that didn't stop Nationals manager Dave Martinez from going to him again with the team up by two runs in the ninth inning of the nightcap. This time Finnegan got the job done with ease, retiring the side in order on 19 pitches. With the pair of saves, Finnegan is up to 36 on the season, third-most in the majors.

Finnegan earned a save against the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one batter in one inning.
EDGE Analysis
Finnegan was called upon in the ninth inning to protect a three-run lead. He started the frame in very shaky fashion, allowing a single and a walk to the first two batters he faced to bring the tying run to the plate with no outs. However, Finnegan bounced back to retire the next three batters without allowing a run to score. The save was his third in the past four days and his 34th of the season, third-most in the majors.

Finnegan earned the save in Tuesday's 4-2 victory over the Yankees, allowing a run on three hits and no walks over 1.1 innings with no strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
The Washington closer entered the eighth with two outs and a runner on third and escaped cleanly thanks to a Giancarlo Stanton groundout. However, the ninth started ominously for Finnegan, as he yielded a leadoff double to Jazz Chisholm but managed to finish the game, laboring through 24 pitches in the inning. Despite struggling with a 7.30 ERA across 12.1 innings post-All-Star break, Finnegan remains cemented as the Nationals closer while the team is out of playoff position and eyeing 2025.

Finnegan picked up the save Sunday against Atlanta, allowing one hit and no walks with two strikeouts across 1.1 scoreless innings.
EDGE Analysis
Sunday's save pushed Finnegan's season total to 32, which ranks third in all of baseball. It was just his sixth time throwing more than one inning in 2024 but the third time he's done so in August. While Finnegan sports a 3.51 ERA through 51.1 innings this season, he's been shaky lately, allowing nine runs in his last nine outings (8.2 innings).

Finnegan pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his 31st save of the season Sunday against the Phillies, allowing one hit with zero strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Finnegan allowed a lead-off single to Edmundo Sosa but he quickly put an end to the scare, inducing a double play and a groundout to secure his 31st save of the season, good for third in MLB. The 32-year-old has been shaky since the All-Star break, logging an unsightly 8.38 ERA, 2.07 WHIP and 6:5 K:BB in 9.2 innings. Despite the rough patch, Finnegan has converted all six save chances during that span and is now 31-for-35 in save opportunities this season.

Finnegan (3-6) took the loss Friday, giving up a run on three hits and a walk without recording an out as the Nationals were downed 3-2 by the Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
Entering a 2-2 game in the bottom of the ninth inning, Finnegan served up singles to Brandon Marsh and Cal Stevenson before loading the bases by intentionally walking Kyle Schwarber. The desperation move didn't pay off, as former Nationals teammate Trea Turner walked it off by nearly launching a grand slam, although he only got credit for a single when the ball banged off the wall in left-center field. Things haven't gone smoothly for Finnegan of late, and the Nats could end up regretting not moving him at the trade deadline -- over his last seven appearances, the right-hander has a horrific 12.79 ERA, 2.84 WHIP and 4:4 K:BB in 6.1 innings, although he's managed to convert his only two save chances over that stretch.

Finnegan picked up the save Sunday against Milwaukee, allowing one hit and no walks across a scoreless ninth inning. He didn't register a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
Finnegan became the third closer to reach 30 saves, joining Emmanuel Clase and Ryan Helsley atop the leaderboard. Despite yielding a leadoff single to Rhys Hoskins, Finnegan kept the Brewers from putting a runner in scoring position, getting Blake Perkins to fly out and Brice Turang to ground into a double play. In 46.1 innings, Finnegan has generated a 3.30 ERA with a 45:14 K:BB.

Finnegan earned the save against the Brewers on Saturday, allowing two hits and striking out one over 1.1 scoreless innings.
EDGE Analysis
Finnegan was called upon to protect a 6-2 lead with two outs in the eighth inning and allowed two inherited runs to score before converting the four-out save on 18 pitches. The closer rebounded from a disastrous outing Monday to secure his sixth straight save attempt. He ranks third in the majors with 29 saves and owns a 3.38 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 45:14 K:BB across 45.1 innings.

Finnegan (2-5) took the loss Monday against the Diamondbacks, coughing up five runs on five hits while recording only one out.
EDGE Analysis
The Nationals' closer got the call to protect a four-run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning, but instead Finnegan served up a leadoff triple to Alek Thomas and a two-run homer to Ketel Marte before pinch hitter Corbin Carroll walked it off with a two-run shot of his own. Finnegan has served up three homers in his last two appearances and nine in 44 innings on the season, which could give pause to trade-deadline shoppers looking for bullpen help. However, his 3.48 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 28 saves in 32 chances will still likely fetch a strong return if the Nats elect to move him.

Finnegan struck out one in a perfect ninth inning to record his 28th save of the season in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Despite turning to Finnegan for save chances Friday and Saturday against Cincinnati, Washington manager Dave Martinez went back to the well again for the third game of the series. The right-hander nailed down the sweep for the Nationals on only five pitches, all strikes. Finnegan's 28 saves matched the career high he set in 2023, and his heavy workload this season hasn't been affecting his performance -- over 10 appearances in July he's posted a 2.89 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 7:2 K:BB in 9.1 innings.
