EDGE Analysis
After his sixth-inning steal against the battery of Sean Newcomb and Travis d'Arnaud, Farmer is already halfway to his 2021 stolen base total. Adding a speed element would make Farmer much more interesting from a fantasy standpoint. He's otherwise a modest contributor, even with near-everyday playing time.

It's possible, maybe even likely, that Farmer will remain the starter at shortstop even when Barrero is healthy enough to play. In previous camps he'd get work at multiple positions in anticipation of being a utility player, but this year he's exclusively getting reps at shortstop.

EDGE Analysis
Farmer, who played through a sports hernia injury over the second half of last season, was worth 1.6 fWAR in 147 games, largely due to his strong defense. He hit .263/.316/.416 on the year, good for a career-best 91 wRC+. Given the direction of the franchise, the Reds will likely turn to the younger Barrero at some point, if not right out of the gates, unless Farmer tops his 2021 production.

Farmer played through a sports hernia injury over the second half of the season, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reported in October. He eventually sat out the final games of the season and found out he will not need surgery this offseason.
EDGE Analysis
So far the Reds have not signed one of the many quality free agent shortstops out there, nor is it anticipated that they will do so. Farmer still has to beat out Jose Barrero for the job, if the Reds don't opt to put Barrero in center field first.
