McGonigle went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays.
EDGE Analysis
McGonigle unofficially took Luis Severino deep in an exhibition game against Team Dominican Republic last week, but now the top prospect has his first official spring training home run. The young infielder has looked good in Grapefruit League play with a .350/.458/.700 slash line across 20 at-bats in 10 contests. McGonigle is not currently on the 40-man roster and still seems likely to start the year in the minors, though he's certainly knocking loudly on the door to the majors, and he seems ready to be a fantasy contributor as soon as he makes his MLB debut.

McGonigle is getting reps across the infield in camp but wants to show that he can stick at shortstop long term, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
McGonigle is an advanced hitter at the age of 21, as he slashed .305/.408/.583 with 19 home runs and 10 stolen bases in 88 games across three minor-league levels in 2025. His clearest path to MLB playing time in the near term appears to be shortstop, where Javier Baez and Zach McKinstry are the incumbents, as Baez and McKinstry would fit nicely in utility roles. McGonigle is getting the chance to show he can be a versatile player as well, but shortstop is the cleanest fit if he's up to the challenge defensively. The young infielder is one of the top prospects in baseball and should be firmly on the fantasy radar this season.

The Tigers have extended McGonigle an invitation to big-league camp during spring training.
EDGE Analysis
Fellow top prospects Max Clark, Max Anderson and Jose Briceno, among others, will also be in major-league camp. Arguably the top prospect in all of baseball, McGonigle is an extremely advanced hitter at just 21 years of age, having slashed .305/.408/.583 with 19 home runs, 10 stolen bases and a 59:46 BB:K across 88 games covering three levels in 2025. He can handle shortstop, second base and third base, and it's at shortstop where the left-handed batter has the clearest opening for playing time with the big club. The Tigers might not be ready to carry McGonigle on their Opening Day roster, but he should make an impact at some point during the 2026 season.

In 12 games this month for Double-A Erie, McGonigle has five home runs and a 1.082 OPS.
EDGE Analysis
In his first 14 games for Erie following a promotion in early July, McGonigle posted a solid .302 batting average but only went deep once. The 21-year-old has displayed increased power since the calendar flipped to August, however, with the five long balls, including four homers in his last five games. McGonigle has quickly made a name for himself as a top prospect, and a promotion to Triple-A Toledo could be on tap later this year if he keeps raking at Double-A.

Through 11 games with Double-A Erie, McGonigle is slashing .275/.383/.475 with a home run, a stolen base and nine RBI.
EDGE Analysis
McGonigle was promoted from High-A West Michigan to Double-A on July 6, and he hasn't skipped a beat. The top prospect delivered two doubles for the SeaWolves on Sunday while making the start at shortstop. The Tigers are on pace for another postseason trip in 2025, so they likely won't rush McGonigle up to the majors for some development time in September. However, the 20-year-old infielder has been a fast riser through the minors, and if he keeps performing well down the stretch, McGonigle could be poised to make his MLB debut early in 2026.

McGonigle was promoted to Double-A Erie on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
McGonigle has been on a tear with High-A West Michigan, producing a .372 average with seven home runs, 39 RBI, 37 runs scored and three stolen bases over 145 at-bats in 36 games with the team. The 20-year-old is considered to be one of Detroit's top overall prospects, and he played shortstop exclusively with West Michigan.

McGonigle is batting .382 with a 1.167 OPS, five home runs and 28 RBI across 26 games for High-A West Michigan.
EDGE Analysis
Before going 0-for-3 on Tuesday, McGonigle was riding a nine-game hitting streak, which included both a four-hit and a five-hit effort. The 20-year-old, who was selected with the No. 37 overall pick back in 2023, has quickly established himself as one of the best pure hitters in the minors. McGonigle has yet to appear above the High-A level and is likely still a few years away from the majors, but he's worth keeping a close eye on, particularly in dynasty formats.

McGonigle (ankle) has gone 2-for-7 with two doubles, three walks and one run in three games since being activated from High-A West Michigan's 7-day injured list Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The middle infielder sprained his right ankle in his season debut April 4 and missed nearly seven weeks of action before getting activated. McGonigle was cleared to rejoin the Tigers' Midwest League affiliate after he completed a six-game rehab assignment at Single-A Lakeland, during which he produced a .235/.350/.353 slash line over 20 plate appearances.

McGonigle (ankle) is 2-for-7 with two walks and zero strikeouts through three rehab games with Single-A Lakeland.
EDGE Analysis
He will likely be activated at High-A West Michigan in the coming days after missing five weeks with a right ankle sprain. McGonigle is one of the best pure hitters in the minors and will likely set himself up for a promotion to Double-A Erie, along with Max Clark, sometime this summer.

McGonigle's placement on High-A West Michigan's 7-day injured list Tuesday was the result of a right ankle sprain, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
McGonigle suffered the injury while running the bases in his season debut Friday, when he went 2-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI. He's taking part in daily rehab for the ankle injury but is without a clear timeline to return to action.
