Gutierrez has been released by the Orioles, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun reports.

After closing last season as the Orioles' everyday third baseman, Gutierrez was believed to be the top option at the position entering spring training, but manager Brandon Hyde's spring lineups have suggested otherwise. Hyde noted earlier Wednesday that the Orioles' lineups for the final week of spring training would be stocked with regulars, so Gutierrez's absence against the Rays is noteworthy in what appears to be a good representation of Baltimore's Opening Day lineup. Now on the bench for the third time in the Orioles' last four games, Gutierrez may have ceded the top job at the hot corner to Ramon Urias, who has picked up more reps at the position with Jorge Mateo making a strong claim for the shortstop gig.

The light-hitting Gutierrez connected on just his second homer of the season Saturday night, and it could not have come at a better time for the Orioles. The 27-year-old pushed his hitting streak to four games and is now batting .333 in his last 10 games.
