Juan Nicasio (neck) hopes to rejoin his teammates at Coors Field Monday. "That's why I am smiling right now. He has everything to do with it. He just made our day," Rockies manager Jim Tracy said. "He told me (jokingly), 'I will be ready to (pitch) in two weeks.'" Nicasio was released from the hospital Wednesday and has been resting comfortably at home. His season is obviously over, but it's looking like he has a good shot to be 100 percent by spring training.

Rockies manager Jim Tracy said Tuesday that Juan Nicasio (neck) is "definitely moving in the right direction." Nicasio was able to move around, with assistance, for the second straight day Tuesday and spoke briefly on the phone with his mother on Monday. The 24-year-old underwent surgery Saturday morning to repair a fracture to the C-1 vertebrae in his neck after being struck in the head by a comeback during Friday's game against the Nationals.

Juan Nicasio (neck) was able to walk and move around on his own Monday. Great news. Nicasio needed surgery Saturday morning to repair a fracture to the C-1 vertebrae in his neck after being hit by a comeback during Friday's game against the Nationals. The most important thing is for him to have a normal life, but doctors are hopeful that he will be able to resume his MLB career.

Dr. Allen Schreiber said Juan Nicasio (neck) "has every reasonable chance to come back" and resume his MLB career. Nicasio had surgery Saturday morning to repair a fracture to the C-1 vertebrae in his neck. Rockies trainer Keith Dugger admits that Nicasio's long-term prognosis is difficult to determine since, as far as he knew, no other MLB player has ever suffered such an injury. "No idea... no idea," said Schreiber, when asked if the injury was career-threatening. "He's 24 years old. He can bounce back. He has every reasonable chance to come back completely... every reasonable chance to do that." In all likelihood, Nicasio will come back and pitch for the Rox next season, but it's scary that they're even talking about the possibility of his career being over.

Rockies placed Juan Nicasio (neck) on the 15-day-disabled list. Nicasio one of the scariest injuries in baseball when he took a line drive off his neck. He underwent neck surgery Saturday morning and will likely miss the remainder of the season. The 24-year old rookie had really started to figure things out striking out ten in his last full start. He will depart with 4.14 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 71 2/3 innings.

Juan Nicasio had surgery Saturday morning to repair a fracture to the C-1 vertebrae in his neck. Horrible. Nicasio was injured Friday when a line drive off the bat of Ian Desmond caught him in the neck/head area. The Rockies' statement says Nicasio is "resting comfortably" at a Denver hospital and "will remain hospitalized as he recovers from the surgery." They've given no indication to this point how long he might be out, but it seems likely that his season is over. If that's the case, he'll leave behind a 4.14 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 58/18 K/BB ratio over 71 2/3 innings in what has been an impressive rookie year.

Juan Nicasio left Friday's game against the Nationals in the second inning after being struck in the head by a comebacker off the bat of Ian Desmond. Just awful. Nicasio completed his motion and had no chance to get out of the way of the liner off Desmond's bat. He fell immediately to the ground, lying on his back, and showed very little movement before being attended to by medical personnel. He eventually moved his hands and was strapped to a stretcher before leaving the field on a golf cart. Stay tuned for an update on his status.

Juan Nicasio struck out a career-high 10 Padres over seven innings Sunday as part of a no-decision in San Diego. Nicasio was strong, giving up just two runs -- one earned -- and five hits while walking two. It's a positive sign as he came into today with a 0-3 record and a 8.75 ERA in his five road starts. Owners in need of strikeouts can take a gamble on the rookie in plus matchups like this.
