Rays optioned 1B Juan Miranda to Triple-A Durham. Miranda stood only an outside shot of landing a bench job after batted .213/.315/.402 in 65 games last season for the Diamondbacks. He'll serve as depth this year.

Rays signed 1B Juan Miranda to a minor league contract. Miranda, 28, hit just .213/.315/.402 with seven home runs and 23 RBI in 65 games for the Diamondbacks in 2011 and didn't do much in his time at Triple-A, either. He's not a bad guy to have for depth purposes. Miranda will get a spring training invite, but it's unlikely he'd have a real shot to win the first base job.

Diamondbacks sent 1B Juan Miranda outright to Triple-A Reno. Miranda, 28, hit just .213/.315/.402 with seven home runs and 23 RBI in 65 games for the Diamondbacks, at times serving as the team's primary first baseman. He could climb his way back to the major leagues at some point later this season.

Juan Miranda went 0-for-4 in the loss to the Indians on Wednesday. That's four straight hitless games for Miranda. Xavier Nady isn't doing much of anything either, so we're wondering if the Diamondbacks might not make a switch at first base this weekend. Paul Goldschmidt and Brandon Allen are both candidates to take over.

Starting for the first time in three games, Juan Miranda went 0-for-4 and struck out twice on Thursday. Manager Kirk Gibson has done nothing but jerk Miranda around all year, and it's probably going to take a prolonged hot streak for that to change. Given that Miranda doesn't have a whole lot of upside, there's always the chance the Diamondbacks will simply bail on him and try Paul Goldschmidt instead.
