Zeid was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Chris Iott of MLive.com reports. Coming off a rough seasons with the Astros, Zeid failed to earn a spot in the Tigers' Opening Day bullpen. He could eventually make it back to the majors this season, but he'd likely just work as a middle reliever or mop-up man.

Zeid (foot) is considered fully healthy and remains in serious consideration for a bullpen role, Chris McCosky of the Detriot News reports. "This is the first time I've technically been on two good feet in two and a half years," Zeid said. "I feel like I am a completely new pitcher."Zeid had surgery on his right foot in August and his left foot in October. Prior to the foot surgery, Zeid had a 6.97 ERA for the Astros in 23 relief outings last season. In 2013, Zeid had 3.90 ERA in 25 relief outings for the Astros, and in the minors from 2011-13, Zeid had an impressive 190 strikeouts in 179.2 innings. "We think he's healthy now, so we're looking forward to seeing what he can do," Tigers' GM David Dombrowski said. Zeid is competing against four other right-handers (Alex Wilson, Shad Smith, Jose Valdez, and Angel Nesbitt) for the last Tigers' bullpen spot, but given the publicity Zeid has been getting this spring training., he seems the favorite to win the job.

Zeid (foot) is expected to compete for the final right-handed reliever spot in the Tigers' bullpen during spring training, the Detroit News reports. The hard-throwing right-handed was acquired from the Astros off waivers in November. Zeid's ability to compete for an Opening Day roster spot will also hinge on the final stages of his recovery from foot surgery. Alex Wilson, Buck Farmer, and Chad Smith are the other candidates in the mix for the job.

Zeid (foot) was claimed off waivers by the Tigers on Thursday, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports. Zeid was knocked around the the tune of a 6.97 ERA in 23 appearances with the Astros last season, but he maintained a strikeout rate of 7.8 K/9 and trimmed his walk rate by nearly a full walk per nine innings (from 3.9 BB/9 to 3.0). The right-hander figures to compete for one of the team's final bullpen spots in spring training, assuming he's fully recovered from foot surgery.
