Vitters signed a minor league contract with the Rockies on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports. Vitters both of the last two seasons primarily at Triple-A, but struggled in 2014 to the tune of a .213/.268/.339 batting line with 11 home runs and 38 RBI. There is no indication of whether or not his contract includes an invite to spring training but it could be a possibility. Either way, he will likely be organizational depth for the Rockies given the plethora of players they boast in the outfield.

Vitters has been placed on the DL at Triple-A Iowa with a broken finger, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports. Given how little time is left in the season and how poorly Vitters is playing - he's hitting .213 in 112 games with Iowa this year - he may have played his last game as a member of the Cubs' organization. A first-round pick by the Cubs in 2007, Vitters has only played 36 games at the big-league level, hitting .121 in 2012.

The Cubs have decided to move Josh Vitters from third base to left field. With Mike Olt and Kris Bryant in the organization, it seemed inevitable that Vitters would be moved elsewhere. He's coming off a lost season at Triple-A Iowa, where he batted .295/.380/.511 but over just 28 games due to injury. He'll compete for a roster spot next spring, but it's probably more likely that he'll make up for some lost time back at Iowa.

Josh Vitters was placed on the disabled list with Triple-A Iowa due to a strained right hamstring. Another tough break for Vitters, who has been limited to just 31 games this season to injury. His days of being the Cubs' "third baseman of the future" are long gone.

Josh Vitters was placed on the disabled list with Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday due to a strained rib cage muscle. It's his second time on the disabled list this season, as he dealt with some back soreness in April. The 23-year-old is batting .270/.343/.444 with three home runs, eight RBI and a .787 OPS in 19 games this season in Triple-A.

Josh Vitters has been placed on the disabled list with Triple-A Iowa due to back soreness. Vitters has been limited to just one at-bat so far this season. The Cubs say that the 23-year-old has been dealing with back soreness since spring training, so he'll now get some extended rest.

Josh Vitters (quad) will make his first start of the spring on Friday. Vitters has been on the shelf since late February with a quad injury. He should theoretically have enough time to get ready for Opening Day, but he's expected to begin the year at Triple-A, anyway.

Josh Vitters (quad) is expected to be sidelined for another week. Vitters was originally diagnosed with a mild quad strain, but if he's out another week that will be over three weeks that he's been on the shelf. The 23-year-old third baseman is expected to begin the year at Triple-A.

Josh Vitters will be sidelined 10-14 days with a "mild" quad strain. The Cubs will be without Vitters and Ian Stewart (quad) for the first two weeks of spring training. The injuries should give Luis Valbuena an extended look as the Cubs' starting third baseman, though both are expected to be ready in time for Opening Day.

Josh Vitters was unavailable for the Cubs' intrasquad game Thursday due to a left quad strain. Vitters is listed on Friday's intrasquad lineup, but it's possible he'll be removed. It doesn't sound like more than a day-to-day issue, though.
