Collmenter is likely set with a spot in the bullpen despite his ugly spring stats. As a veteran, he may just be working on some pitches. Arizona's 2015 Opening Day starter, Collmenter quickly relinquished his role in the starting rotation, but found success in the bullpen, posting a 2.03 ERA. However, he had just a 5.2 K/9 in relief last year.

Collmenter will stay with the Diamondbacks after the team picked up his club option for 2016, Zach Buchanan of the Arizona Republic reports.

With closer Brad Ziegler unavailable after giving up seven runs over a total of 2.1 innings the previous two days, manager Chip Hale turned to two different pitchers in save situations Tuesday. After Dan Hudson closed things out in Game 1, Collmenter, who typically works as Arizona's long man, limited the Rockies to a base hit and a double over his two frames to claim the save. The hiccups in his recent appearances aside, Ziegler has been excellent in the closing role this season, so don't expect Collmenter to put much pressure on him for those duties.

Collmenter, making his first appearance since June 7, pitched 2.2 innings in relief Thursday, allowing a run on three hits and a walk, while registering two strike outs against Anaheim. Collmenter has moved to the bullpen in favor of Thursday's starter Allen Webster who was hit hard by the Angels. Collmenter has seen time in the bullpen in the past and re-emerged as a starter again, so if you have the roster space it could be worth stashing him in case Webster can't hold onto a place in the D-backs' rotation.

Collmenter has been scratched from his Saturday start and will be moved to the bullpen, Zach Buchanan of The Arizona Republic reports. Collmenter had looked at least solid in the games leading up to last Sunday's start, but that five-run outing must have been the last straw for Arizona before they decided to go with another, younger option. Collmenter's ERA and FIP both hover over five and he's given up a 1.7 HR/9, which is brutal at this point in the season. He'll be replaced in the rotation by new call-up Allen Webster.

Collmenter fell to 3-6 after allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk over six innings Sunday against the Mets. The 29-year-old struggled with the longball in this outing, as he allowed four home runs on the day to account for all of the damage against him. He had gone three starts without surrendering more than three runs, but couldn't extend his streak. Collmenter will need to do a much better job of keeping the ball in the yard in his next start Saturday against the Giants.

Collmenter labored through five innings Wednesday, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three in St. Louis. He needed 102 pitches (62 strikes) to complete five frames, but still would have been in line for the win prior to Brad Ziegler taking the loss and the blown save in the ninth inning. While most of the damage to Collmenter's 5.05 ERA came in a May 11 start against the Nationals when he gave up nine runs in 1.1 innings, there also have not been many truly bright spots for the righty so far this season. Even in the complete game shutout he threw against the Giants in April, owners walked away from that start with only two strikeouts, so the upside on a start-to-start basis with Collmenter is lacking in the majority of formats.

Collmenter got back on track Friday against the Cubs, tossing five innings while giving up two runs on six hits and one walk. He struck out four while in the no-decision. Collementer has had an up and down season, but after struggling in three consecutive starts where he gave up at least four runs, this performance was encouraging. While his 5.19 ERA and 1.37 WHIP are both well above his career averages, his FIP is 4.60 suggesting that he's been a bit better than it looks and there is some room for improvement over the course of the rest of the season.

Collmenter only lasted 1.1 innings Monday against the Nationals, allowing nine earned runs on eight hits, including a three-run home run to Ryan Zimmerman. Collmenter gave up three home runs in his last start as well, and is allowing 1.32 home runs per nine innings this season. He doesn't bring much to the table in terms of fantasy value, striking out just 4.61 batters per nine innings and posting a FIP of 4.37, which would be a career high.

Collmenter picked up the win Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader with the Rockies. He gave up five runs on 10 hits, including three home runs, with five strikeouts over seven innings. Collementer won for the third time in his last four decisions, despite not having one of his best outings. He has gone three straight outings without walking a batter while striking out 14 in 21 innings as he has gotten into a groove of late. With a 2.76 ERA and 1.13 WHIP, he is a useful starter in most leagues.
