The Mariners released Odom on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
With fellow catcher Luis Torrens getting outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma, the Mariners didn't have room for Odom with their top affiliate. The 30-year-old backstop saw action in 20 games in the big leagues between the previous two seasons but had played exclusively at Tacoma in 2022, batting .231 with 10 home runs in 238 plate appearances.

Odom will remain in the Rays organization after he went unclaimed off waivers Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 29-year-old backstop will report to the Rays' alternate site after accepting an outright assignment. After earning a spot on Tampa Bay's Opening Day roster, Odom appeared in two games before he was cast off the 40-man roster over the weekend.

Odom was designated for assignment by the Rays on Friday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 29-year-old's contract was selected by the Rays last weekend, and he went 0-for-2 in two games during his brief time with the team. Even if he remains in the organization, Odom is unlikely to rejoin the big-league club while Mike Zunino and Francisco Mejia remain healthy.

Odom's contract was selected by the Rays on Saturday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Odom should serve as the third catcher behind Mike Zunino and Francisco Mejia during his time with the team but probably won't find his way into too many games. Ryan Sherriff landed on the restricted list in a corresponding move.

The Rays reassigned Odom to their minor-league camp Thursday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Odom got the chance to make his big-league debut with the Mariners in 2020, appearing in 18 games when the club was short on catching depth. Since Tampa Bay has Mike Zunino and Francisco Mejia on the 40-man roster, plus a more experienced non-roster invitee in Kevan Smith (back) in camp, Odom never had much hope of spending Opening Day with the big-league club.

Odom signed a minor-league contract with the Rays on Wednesday as a non-roster invitee, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Odom made his major-league debut with the Mariners in 2020, but he sputtered to a .128/.209/.128 slash line with two RBI over 39 at-bats. He'll get to compete for a roster spot with the Rays in 2021 during spring training.

The Mariners declared Odom a free agent Sunday, Chris Hilburn-Trenkle of Baseball America reports.
EDGE Analysis
Odom will look for work elsewhere after he appeared in 18 games for the Mariners in 2020, slashing .128/.209/.128 in 44 plate appearances. Seattle dropped the 28-year-old catcher from its 40-man roster in October.

Odom was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Odom got into the first 18 games of his MLB career this season but did very little with the opportunity, hitting .128/.209/.128 while striking out at a 45.5 percent clip. He'll remain in an organizational depth role for the Mariners heading into next season.

Odom is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Odom will take a seat for the third time in four games in favor of Luis Torrens, whom the Mariners acquired from the Padres last week ahead of the Aug. 31 trade deadline. The 24-year-old Torrens is expected to serve as the Mariners' primary backstop the rest of the way, so Odom is poised to stick in the No. 2 catcher role he's filled throughout the season.

Odom will start at catcher and will bat ninth Monday against the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
After Austin Nola was dealt to the Padres on Sunday, Odom temporarily finds himself atop the Mariners' catching depth chart. Though he'll pick up his second straight start Monday, Odom could soon face competition from 24-year-old Luis Torrens, who was one of the young players Seattle received from San Diego in the deal. Odom is four years older and has been more of a defensive-minded option behind the plate throughout his career, so the rebuilding Mariners would be incentivized to give the higher-upside option in Torrens a longer look in an everyday role.
