De Paula will be optioned down to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre on Monday.
De Paula pitched 3.1 innings during Sunday's blowout loss to the Tigers where he gave up a home run and walked four during his time on the mound. Fortunately for him, he wasn't the only Yankee to pitch poorly Sunday as Masahiro Tanaka and Danny Burawa combined to give up four home runs of their own, although both De Paula's and Burawa's outings were dismal enough to warrant an option back to Triple-A.

De Paula has not pitched yet this season after suffering a shoulder injury in spring training.
De Paula experienced soreness in his shoulder during spring training, but the extent of the injury beyond that remains unclear. The 25-year-old wasn't likely to make the big leagues this year anyway, but he'll likely be restricted to Triple-A action when he does return to full health.

De Paula will undergo an MRI after experiencing soreness in his shoulder, LoHud.com reports.
De Paula hasn't gotten much work in the spring thus far, pitching two scoreless innings in his only appearance. The 25-year-old is on the 40-man roster, but is a likely candidate to begin the season in the Triple-A rotation. Consider him day-to-day for now, though his outlook could change pending the results of the MRI.

Jose De Paula has a shot at winning a bullpen job with the Giants.
"I don't know a lot about him, but he's been the talk around camp right now with his early success," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "It's a good arm, good breaking ball. He pounds the zone on both sides. I didn't know a lot about him coming out of San Diego, but he's really opened up some eyes." De Paula was claimed off waivers from the Padres in November, and while he's still got some work to do, he could sneak onto the Opening Day roster if he continues his strong spring.
