Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Berrios (elbow) has resumed throwing but will not be on the World Series roster, should his team advance, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
Berrios' last appearance came Sept. 24 and his last start was Sept. 16, as he's been shelved for nearly a month with right elbow inflammation. While it's good news that he's been cleared to resume a throwing program, the window for him to pitch in games again in 2025 has closed. Barring a setback, Berrios should have a normal offseason.

Berrios (elbow) has yet to resume throwing and will not be part of the Blue Jays' ALDS roster, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
A second opinion on Berrios' right elbow confirmed that he has no structural damage, but he's not close to being ready to pitch in a game setting. While i's possible Berrios will be an option later in the playoffs if the Blue Jays make a run, that won't be a consideration until he's ramped up his throwing.

An MRI revealed Berrios (elbow) doesn't have any structural damage, and he will be seeking a second opinion, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Berrios was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to right elbow inflammation. While Friday's news is encouraging, manager John Schneider indicated Berrios likely wouldn't return in 2025 unless the Blue Jays made a deep run in the playoffs. Toronto bumped Berrios to the bullpen Sept. 19 and surrendered three runs in two innings during his only appearance afterward.

The Blue Jays placed Berrios on the 15-day injured list Thursday with right elbow inflammation, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Berrios is slated to receive an MRI to determine the severity of his injury, but his move to the IL will keep him out for the rest of the regular season and a good chunk of the postseason, regardless of the results. Paxton Schultz was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.

Manager John Schneider said Friday that Berrios will be used out of the bullpen going forward, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
The arrival of Trey Yesavage on Monday left the Blue Jays with six arms in their rotation, so the team will clear the logjam by shifting Berrios to a long relief role. The 31-year-old right-hander owns a 4.06 ERA and 1.29 WHIP alongside a 135:54 K:BB through 164 innings on the year, and he could make his first reliever appearance soon, considering he hasn't pitched since Tuesday.

Berrios did not factor in the decision during Tuesday's win over Tampa Bay. He allowed three runs on four hits and two walks over four innings.
EDGE Analysis
All the damage against Berrios came in the third inning when Brandon Lowe ripped a three-run homer. It was Berrios' first start this season in which he did not record a strikeout, and he generated only two whiffs on 78 pitches. He hasn't earned a win since Aug. 12 and has just one quality start over his last eight appearances. During that span, Berrios has produced a 4.86 ERA, raising his season mark to 4.06 alongside a 135:54 K:BB through 164 frames. He's projected for a home matchup with the Red Sox next week.

Berrios didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Astros, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk in 5.1 innings. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
After working a season-low two innings his last time out in Cincinnati, Berrios rediscovered his form to throw 5.1 solid innings Wednesday. The veteran right-hander had tossed at least five frames in each of his first 14 outings of the season, though he's been able to last at least five innings in just nine of his last 15 appearances. Berrios still holds a quality 3.99 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 135:52 K:BB across 29 starts, and he'll be in search of some consistency in a scheduled matchup against the division-rival Rays next week.

Berrios came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 12-9 win over the Reds, surrendering six runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks over two innings. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander hadn't taken the mound since Aug. 23, but the extended rest didn't seem to help Berrios, who needed 66 pitches (35 strikes) to record just six outs. The blow to his ERA was cushioned by an Isiah Kiner-Falefa throwing error in the second inning, but it's still the seventh time in 11 starts since the beginning of July that Berrios has been tagged for at least four runs, a stretch in which he carries a 5.47 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 2.4 HR/9 and 42:14 K:BB over 52.2 innings. He tentatively lines up to make his next outing at home early next week against the Astros.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Berrios won't make his next start until Tuesday in Cincinnati, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
Berrios will have gone more than a week between starts, as he most recently took the hill in Miami this past Saturday, when he struck out eight batters and allowed two earned runs over 6.1 innings. The veteran right-hander doesn't seem to be dealing with an injury coming out of the start, but he'll be pushed to the back of the pitching schedule as the Blue Jays realign their rotation ahead of an important series this weekend against the NL-leading Brewers and next weekend against the Yankees, who sit four games behind Toronto in the AL East. The Blue Jays are now tentatively slated to have their top three starters -- Shane Bieber, Kevin Gausman and Max Scherzer -- make a start each in both of those series.

Berrios came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Marlins, allowing two runs on four hits over 6.1 innings. He struck out eight without walking a batter.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander blanked Miami for six frames before running out of gas in the seventh, exiting the mound after generating 33 called or swinging strikes in 81 pitches (56 total strikes). Berrios was in line for his 10th win of the season, but a blown save by Jeff Hoffman forced him to settle for his 14th quality start. Berrios has given up three earned runs or fewer in five of his last six outings, posting a 4.26 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 27:7 K:BB over 31.2 innings during that stretch. He'll look to build on this performance in his next start, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Brewers.
