Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that Johnny Damon is still open to playing, or even managing, but will only do so at the major league level. The 40-year-old outfielder has kept himself in shape despite not playing during the 2013 season, and has yet to officially retire. At this point, it's unlikely that any team is going to jump in and offer him a chance to play in 2014.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that Johnny Damon "has remained in shape" and "would love to resume his career after missing last season." Damon's agent, Scott Boras, told his client to let him know when he was officially retired, and he's yet to receive such a phone call. The 40-year-old batted only .222/.281/.329 across 64 games for the Indians in 2012 and would surely have to settle for a minor league deal if he does decide to continue his career.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman ruled out a Johnny Damon deal Tuesday in a chat with reporters. "We need somebody who can play the outfield every day," Cashman said. Damon is a lousy defensive outfielder and hit just .222/.281/.329 in 224 plate appearances last season with the Indians. The Yankees are expected to look internally to replace the injured Curtis Granderson.

Johnny Damon said on Michael Kay's radio show Monday that he is interested in returning to the Yankees. We doubt the feeling is mutual, which Damon acknowledged during the interview. The topic was raised because Damon is a free agent and the Yankees figure to be on the lookout for outfield help now that Curtis Granderson is out 10 weeks with a fractured forearm. However, we're betting against a reunion.

Johnny Damon told the Boston Globe that he would retire if a team does not sign him before spring training. Damon wasn't signed until two weeks into the regular season last year, and it remains doubtful any team will offer him a minor league contract. The 39-year-old played just 64 games for the Indians last season and failed to draw interest on waivers after being designated for assignment in August.

Johnny Damon is hoping to catch on with a team for the 2013 season. Damon played just 64 games for the Indians last season before being designated for assignment in August after batting only .222/.281/.329. Now 39, he'll have to settle for a non-guaranteed deal with someone if he wants to continue his career. "I liked being home last season with my kids. But I'm in shape and if I could play, I would," he said. "We'll see what happens. I still think I have something left if I am used the right way."

Johnny Damon went 1-for-3 as Thailand's designated hitter Wednesday in Game 1 of the WBC qualifier. Thailand committed seven errors in the field en route to being blown out by the Philippines. Damon singled and drew a walk but also grounded into a double play. One team among Thailand, Chinese Taipei, New Zealand and the Philippines will advance to the 16-team World Baseball Classic. That tourney begins in early March.

Johnny Damon is expected to play for Thailand in the WBC qualifier in Taiwan in November. Damon's mother is from Thailand, which gives him the eligibility to do so. The 38-year-old outfielder hit just .222/.281/.329 with four homers and 19 RBI in 64 games for the Indians this past season. He's just 231 hits away from 3,000, but that historic mark will be difficult to reach if he can't find a suitor this winter.

Indians released OF-DH Johnny Damon. Damon failed to draw any interest on waivers after being designated for assignment last week. The 37-year-old batted just .222/.281/.329 with four homers, four steals and a .610 OPS over 224 plate appearances during his time with the Indians. Currently at 2,769 career hits, Damon is still interested in continuing his career elsewhere, but he may struggle to find a new home before the end of the season.

According to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com, the Indians will release outfielder/designated hitter Johnny Damon and right-hander Jeremy Accardo on Thursday. Both players passed through waivers after being designated for assignment last week. According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, Damon hasn't heard if any contenders are interested in him, but he plans to continue to playing. The Indians are expected to either release or trade recently DFA'd right-hander Derek Lowe on Friday.
